RECOMMENDATION OF APPROVAL BY THE PLAN COMMISSION
TO THE COMMON COUNCIL TO AMEND CHAPTER 14, SECTION 1.5 (2) (B)
OF THE FLOOD PLAIN ORDINANCE TO ADOPT A REVISED OFFICIAL
FLOODPLAIN MAP FOR THE AREA SOUTH OF THE LITTLE MUSKEG0 LAKE
DAM ALONG THE MUSKEGO CANAL
a
WHEREAS, On July 28, 1992, the City of Muskego amended Chapter 14 of the Municipal
Ordinance (Floodplain Zoning Ordinance) through a map and text amendment by Ordinance Number
759 following public notice and hearing, and
WHEREAS, The purpose of this map and text amendment was to revise the floodplain
zoning code to reflect the Dam Failure Floodplain Limits as prepared by Ruekert & Mielke for the
Little Muskego Dam, and
WHEREAS, The City of Muskego was required to regulate development in an area mapped
by Reukert & Mielke Dam Failure study known as downstream zoning with the hydraulic shadow,
and
WHEREAS, This map is known as the Floodplain from Dam Failure dated July 1992, and the
map, and profiles had been reviewed and approved by the Department of Natural Resources on
January 1992, and said maps referenced the FEMA Floodplain Boundary Maps dated December 1,
1982, and e WHEREAS, Repairs and renovations to the Little Muskego Lake Dam have been completed and the dam is no longer regarded as a High Hazard Class 111 Dam rating, and
WHEREAS, The floodplain map has been revised to eliminate the possibility of dam failure
and now reflects the current status of the the 100 year floodplain and floodway, and
WHEREAS, The DNR has approved the map titled, 100 Year FloodplaidFloodway
Muskego Canal as prepared by Ruekert & Mielke for the areas south of the Little Muskego Lake
Dam along the Muskego Canal.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That the Plan Commission recommends approval to the
Common Council to adopt as the official floodplain map for the area south of the Little Muskego
Lake Dam along the Muskego Canal titled, 100 Year Floodplain/Floodway Muskego Canal, as
prepared by Ruekert & Mielke and dated November, 1996.
