CCR2007141. . . COMMON COUNCIL - CITY OF MUSKEGO RESOLUTION #141-2007 RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE 150 TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF ST. PAUL'S CHURCH WHEREAS, the early settlers of the Muskego area saw the importance of worshiping and growing in God's Word together; and WHEREAS, twelve German pioneer families, many of which still have descendants in the congregation today, joined together in 1857 to organize as a church under the name "First Protestant Mission"; and WHEREAS, under the leadership of Pastor Gotthold Thurow, the first resident pastor, the first constitution was filed on May 15, 1877, in the Town of Muskego naming the church "St. Paul's German Evangelical Lutheran Church" with a membership of 125 or so members; and WHEREAS, St. Paul's joined the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) in 1911 and continues to grow to this day with nearly 2,400 members which comprises a large percentage of the Muskego population. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the Common Council of the City of Muskego is proud to acknowledge the accomplishments of St. Paul's Church and extends the community's best wishes to the congregation as they celebrate the church's 150th anniversary.
