AMENDED COMMON COUNCIL - CITY OF MUSKEGO RESOLUTION #143-2004 AUTHORIZATION TO APPLY TO ENROLL THE ENGEL CONSERVATION SITE IN TWO FEDERAL PROGRAMS WHEREAS, The City of Muskego acquired the Engel property and intends to use the land as a conservation site; and WHEREAS, The Conservation Commission has recommended that the lands be enrolled in two federal programs to assist with restoration of wetlands and adjacent uplands; and WHEREAS, It is proposed that approximately 45 acres of agricultural wetlands be restored through the Wetland Reserve Program (WRP). The program is administered by the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and would cover all the restoration costs and also pay the City for an easement to keep the enrolled lands in wetlands; and WHEREAS, It is further proposed to restore 18.5 acres of adjacent upland crop fields to prairie vegetation through a program administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). The program is a 75% cost share program and will pay for prairie seed with the City's in-kind match consisting of the planting and needed maintenance. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the Common Council of the City of Muskego does hereby authorize applying to enroll the Engel Conservation site into the two federal programs as outlined above. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That the Mayor is authorized to sign the necessary documents in the name of the City to apply for enrollment in said programs. DATED THIS 14th ,2004.
