CCR2004040COMMON COUNCIL - CITY OF MUSKEGO RESOLUTION #040-2004 RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE NAMING THE WOODS ADJACENT TO VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK TO MEMORIALIZE BETTY CZARAPATA WHEREAS, Muskego resident, Betty Czarapata, actively crusaded against invasive plant species devoting many volunteer hours to remove them from City lands during her lifetime; and WHEREAS, Betty spearheaded efforts to remove honeysuckle and buckthorn shrubs from the woods adjacent to Veterans Memorial Park; and WHEREAS, The Conservation Commission and Parks and Recreation Board have recommended naming the Veterans Memorial Park woodlot "Betty's Woods" in honor of Betty Czarapata. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the Common Council of the City of Muskego, upon the recommendation of the Conservation Commission and Parks and Recreation Board, does hereby authorize naming the Veterans Memorial Park woodlot "Betty's Woods" with a plaque to be installed in her honor. Through volunteer work and community education, Betty devoted much of her life to the control of invasive plants in the natural landscapes of Muske go and southeastern Wisconsin. Betty authored two books on identification and control of invasive plants that threaten the biological diversity of our forests, wetlands, and prairies. The City of Muskego is committed to continue control efforts that Betty initiated within these woods and other lands in our community.
