RESOLUTION FOR NRCS FARMLAND PRESERVATION GRANT 2001
WHEREAS, Preserving farmland and open space within the City of Muskego is an objective in
the Comprehensive Plan; and
WHEREAS, Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) is anticipated to be identified as a primary
tool for preserving farmland and open space in the City of Muskego Conservation Plan; and
WHEREAS, a balance of $152,340 is available in the City of Muskego Land and Open Space
Conservation Fund; and
WHEREAS, Financial aid is required to carry out the project; and
WHEREAS, The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resource
Conservation Service (NRCS) administers a Farmland Protection Grant Program which
provides matching funds for up to 50% of the cost of purchasing conservation easements; and
WHEREAS, The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has identified landowners willing
to sell development rights through their efforts in developing the Big Muskego Lake Wildlife
Area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That the City of Muskego may identify lands within the
City of Muskego eligible for this grant program and utilize available funds in the 2001 Land and
Open Space Conservation Fund to fund the matching share to purchase development rights.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That the Mayor be authorized to act on behalf of the City to
submit an application to the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resource
Conservation Service for any financial aid that may be available; sign documents; and take
necessary actions to undertake, direct and complete the approved project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That the City of Muskego will comply with criteria outlined in the
Farmland Protection Program Request for Proposals - 2001
