RESOLUTION SUPPORTmNG COUNTY-WIDE
LAW ENFORCEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
WHEREAS, the City of Muskego is a municipal corporation in
Waukesha County which provides police services within its cor-
porate limits, and
WHEREAS, there are at least thirty (30) such municipal corpora-
tions in addition to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department
which provide varying levels of police service throughout Waukesha
County, and
WHEREAS, criminal activity is not limited by municipal boundaries
and it is known that the same individuals commit crimes in more
than one municipal jurisdiction, and
WHEREAS, the coordination of criminal investigations and the
sharing of information regarding criminal activity among the
various municipal and county law enforcement agencies is limited,
principally because relevant information is kept by each agency
and is not readily available to other agencies, and
WHEREAS, data processing technology has advanced such that infor-
mation pertaining to criminal history, method of committing crime,
stolen property and other relevant information can be shared in a
timely manner, and
WHEREAS, such an information system will be most effective and
economical if implemented on a county-wide basis.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of
Muskego does hereby recognize the inherent benefits of a county-
wide law enforcement information system; and is
FURTHER RESOLVED, to urge the County Board of the County of
Waukesha to take appropriate steps to facilitate the development
and implementation of a county-wide law enforcement information
system; and
FURTHER, urges that this system be established in such a manner
as to ensure that the needs of all law enforcement agencies,
large or small, are met to the extent possible and with the
minimum disruption to existing operations.
