CCR2011174-Job Descrip-System Admin City of Muskego Position Description Name: Department: Information Technology Position Title: Systems Administrator Pay Grade: G54 FLSA: E Date: December 2011 Reports To: Director of Information Technology 2011 Salary Scale: Minimum $55,546 - Midpoint $65,348 - Maximum $75,151 Purpose of Position Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, this position is responsible for the operational support and maintenance of the City of Muskego technical infrastructure, including but not limited to servers, networks, software/hardware systems, database systems, and telecommunication systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Provides operation support for local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), wireless networks, the Internet, Intranet, and other telecommunication systems. Installs, configures, and maintains all servers, network infrastructure devices, operating systems, application software, mobile devices and peripheral equipment. Manages citywide landline, network, and cellular telephony systems and equipment. Installs, configures, and maintains the PC environment. Provides end user technical support for computer software and hardware. Provides operation support for database management software and determines ways to store, organize, and maintain data. Maintains and evolves technical infrastructure and inventory documentation. Coordinate, evolve, and execute information technology disaster recovery operations. Identifies, coordinates, and monitors daily network backup and recovery procedures. Implements network security measures such as, user access control, permissions, and system accounting in order to maintain system integrity. Researches, recommends, and tests hardware, software, and network configurations in order to develop guidelines to ensure system compatibility and better service to end users. Maintain internal and external web servers including technical aspects of the Internet and Intranet systems and sites supported by the Information Technology Department. Monitors system activity and performs necessary maintenance to ensure that the design of the city computer system allows all of the components, including computers, networks, and software, to work together reliably and efficiently. Additional Tasks and Responsibilities While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. Assists city departments with technical, physical, and non-technical tasks. Participates in on-going training. Performs network/telephone cabling tasks. Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Bachelor’s degree in, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related field, with five years related experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience with project management, modern IT principles and technologies, telecommunications, network operations, server administration, workstations, and relational database technology is required. Valid Wisconsin motor vehicle operator’s license required. In addition, the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:  Experience with virtual server infrastructure administration.  Experience with the modern Windows Active Directory environment.  Ability to support local and wide area networks.  Experience with computer hardware and software support and problem determination.  Experience supporting network security policies and procedures including the implementation of firewalls and authentication services.  Experience with scripting.  Experience SQL Server administration.  Experience with data communications and telephony.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of explaining procedures in writing or verbally.  Available for off-hours support including weekends and holidays. Mathematical Ability Ability to apply algebraic and trigonometric formulas, calculate percentages, fractions, decimals, ratios, present values, and spatial relationships. Ability to interpret basic descriptive statistical reports. Judgment and Situational Reasoning Ability Ability to use functional reasoning in performing influence functions such as leading, teaching, directing, and controlling. Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against measurable criteria, and against sensory and/or judgmental criteria. Physical Requirements Ability to operate equipment and machinery with some requiring complex and rapid adjustments, such as computers, printers, modems, fax machine, telephone, calculator/adding machine, cabling tools, and common hand tools. Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing slightly-skilled movements such as rapid keyboard use. Ability to exert moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, lifting, carrying, climbing, pushing and pulling. Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration and stand for long periods of time. Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes and textures associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks. Environmental Adaptability Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as repetitive computer keyboard use, irate individuals, intimidation, toxic agents, electrical currents, hazardous materials, explosives and disease may cause discomfort and poses little risk of injury.
