CCR2011174-Job Descrip-Intern City of Muskego Position Description Name: Department: Information Technology Position Title: Computer Support Intern Pay Grade: FLSA: Date: December 2011 Reports To: Director of Information Technology 2011 Salary Scale: Part Time - Hourly $10.00 - $12.00 Purpose of Position Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, this position is responsible for providing general technical support for the City’s PC hardware, software, and peripheral equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Installs and configures PC hardware and software. Provides any customization and changes necessary to meet user requirements. Performs deployment, problem analysis, maintenance and repair on PC hardware and associated peripherals. Maintains PC hardware and software inventory documentation. Provides end user technical support for PC hardware and software. Performs other duties as assigned. Additional Tasks and Responsibilities While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. Assists city departments with technical, physical, and non-technical tasks. Performs network/telephone cabling tasks. Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Currently enrolled in or have completed a degree program in computer science or related field. Valid Wisconsin motor vehicle operator’s license required. In addition, the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: Sufficient knowledge of computer hardware and software systems to install, maintain and repair systems proficiently. Skill in the operation of software and equipment needed to perform the job function. Skill in communicating effectively with all levels of personnel. Skill in system analysis and problem solving. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to process confidential materials with discretion. Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication Ability to decide the time, place, and sequence of operations within an organizational framework, and to oversee their execution. Ability to analyze data and information using established criteria, in order to determine consequences and to identify and select alternatives. Ability to compare, count, differentiate, measure, copy, record and transcribe data and information. Ability to classify, compute, tabulate, and categorize data. Ability to advise and interpret how to apply policies, procedures, guidelines and standards, to specific situations. Ability to utilize a variety of advisory and design data and information such as computer software/hardware manuals, flow charts, diagrams, maps, non-routine correspondence, contracts, computer journals/textbooks, computer languages and accounting methods. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with city employees, other information technology professionals, computer software and hardware consultants, vendor representatives, schools, and citizens. Mathematical Ability Ability to apply algebraic and trigonometric formulas, calculate percentages, fractions, decimals, ratios, present values, and spatial relationships. Ability to interpret basic descriptive statistical reports. Judgment and Situational Reasoning Ability Ability to use functional reasoning in performing influence functions such as leading, teaching, directing, and controlling. Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against measurable criteria, and against sensory and/or judgmental criteria. Physical Requirements Ability to operate equipment and machinery with some requiring complex and rapid adjustments, such as computers, printers, modems, fax machine, telephone, calculator/adding machine, cabling tools, and common hand tools. Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing slightly-skilled movements such as rapid keyboard use. Ability to exert moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, lifting, carrying, climbing, pushing and pulling. Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration and stand for long periods of time. Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes and textures associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks. Environmental Adaptability Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as repetitive computer keyboard use, irate individuals, intimidation, toxic agents, electrical currents, hazardous materials, explosives and disease may cause discomfort and poses little risk of injury.
