CCR2025.042-Grant-Holz Family FoundationCOMMON COUNCIL - CITY OF MUSKEGO RESOLUTION #042-2025 RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT RECEIPT OF GRANT FUNDING FROM THE HOLZ FAMILY FOUNDATION FOR THE ECOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT OF CONSERVATION LANDS Bluhm Park, Holz Island and Marshland Camps Preserve WHEREAS, the City of Muskego is committed to advancing conservation efforts within its parks and preserves to enhance natural habitats and maintain the ecological integrity of designated sites; and WHEREAS, in April, 2025 a request was made and a grant application submitted by City staff to the Jerome J. and Dorothy H. Holz Family Foundation for financial assistance concerning the City's restoration projects within Bluhm Park and conservation efforts at two additional sites, Marshland Camps Preserve and Holz Island on Little Muskego Lake; and WHEREAS, Bluhm Park contains an 18-acre oak woodland with several bur, white, and red/black oak trees exceeding 200 years in age, a plant community identified by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as rare and imperiled; and WHEREAS, the City has undertaken substantial restoration efforts in Bluhm Park since 2000, including invasive species removal, prescribed burns, and native plantings, and seeks to expand upon this work through the assistance of contracted ecological management services; and WHEREAS, Holz Island, an oak woodland preserved for conservation by Rudolf Holz in 1972, requires further invasive plant removal to maintain its natural character and ecological integrity; and WHEREAS, Marshland Camps Preserve, which is partially the site of the original Holz family farmstead encompasses 50 acres of former farmland and remnant wetland adjacent to Big Muskego Lake, the City intends to restore and protect this area through invasive species removal and the reintroduction of prescribed fire; and WHEREAS, on July 7, 2025 the Trustees of the Jerome J. and Dorothy H. Holz Family Foundation approved a grant in the amount of $15,000.00 which is to be directly allocated toward the City's Conservation Land Management as outlined in the attached grant request. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of Muskego, upon the recommendation of the Finance Committee, does hereby acknowledge receipt of $15,000.00 from the Jerome J. and Dorothy H. Holz Family Foundation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor is authorized to execute the Grant Acknowledgment and any related documents on behalf of the City in order to accept the grant and the City Attorney is authorized to make substantive changes to said documents as may be necessary in order to preserve the general intent thereof.
