Reference Update (from Samantha Quail - Head of Reference, Eileen Castro - Adult Services Librarian, Jolyn Lobe and Laura Boeck - Reference Assistants): Summer Reading is officially over, and we reached another peak this year! There were 512 participants registered in the adult program compared to 504 in 2024. They read a total of 340,675 minutes and entered 10,156 tickets into the various raffle drawings. This year we had $673 worth of prizes donated by local businesses and area attractions, and another $200 worth of gift cards donated by the Friends of the Library. On September 1ST our meeting room reservations opened for 2026, and we have already seen many reservations come in for next year. This was the first year in which patrons can make reservations themselves through Library Calendar, and we saw less of a rush at the Reference Desk from paper applications on the first day reservations opened. The study pods, including the newly finished JobPod were added to Library Calendar as well, and we have already seen reservation requests specifically for the pods. Upcoming adult programs for the next few weeks include: • Muskego Matinee on Thursday September 18 and October 2. • Cup of Health Series: Menal Health on Thursday September 25. • Brews and Books Book Club on Tuesday October 7. • Emergency Preparedness on Wednesday October 8. • Chain Reaction Crochet Group on Thursday October 9. • Friends of the Library Wine Glass Etching Fundraiser on Saturday October 11. • Crafternoon on Monday October 20. 2. Children's Update (from Emma McClure — Children's Librarian, Courtney Metko and Stephanie Simmons - Reference Assistants): Summer reading has officially ended after an additional two weeks were added on to the program because of construction. 906 kids participated in the 6-11 program and 437 kids participated in the 0-5 program. Now that children in the community have returned to school, the children's department has returned to our regular school year programming. Storytimes will have a different schedule this fall; now Baby and Preschool storytimes will take place on Tuesdays, Toddler storytimes will be on Wednesday, and Family Storytime will remain on Thursdays. Messy Makers, Lego Club, and STEAM Explorers will also be held this month. 13 3. Young Adult Update (from Amanda Hyland - Young Adult and Marketing Librarian): In August, teens enjoyed a variety of activities, including Nerf Wars, Universal Yums: Czechia, and a Scavenger Hunt: Crayons Edition. The Teen Summer Reading Program wrapped up with 255 registrations and an impressive 173,689 minutes read. The Library's passive programs gained a lot of attention —our Break -In Bags were completed 211 times, and the Rebus Puzzles drew 482 entries. 4. Circulation Update (from Jane Matusinec - Circulation Supervisor): August was a challenging month as we dealt with the library being closed two days for the parking lot paving project. We adjusted our services to meet the needs of the public on the days we could be open, using just the side parking lot and a temporary entrance. The staff had to be flexible with their work duties as people were needed for regular circulation work as well as monitoring the side door as patrons entered and left the building. We were very fortunate that we could continue to accept our transit deliveries so there was no over-whelming delivery at the end of the project. (Our delivery driver was happy too!) During our first in-service on August 7 (held at New Berlin library) circ staff was introduced to the new and improved catalog which goes live in September. There was also a presentation by the ADRC of Waukesha County regarding dementia awareness. We met again on August 19 for a get -to -know you session with our new director! Circulation staff also met to go over the steps for taking payments from patrons for fines, replacement costs of Muskego items and how to deal with damaged or lost non-Muskego items. We transitioned smoothly back to regular services after a short -notice half -day closure on Monday morning, August 25. This month's book display features man's best friend vs the cat. Which animal makes the better detective? A surprising number of sleuths use pets in their storylines. 5. Other Updates: a. Dates of Note: The next full Library Board meeting is Tuesday October 21'Y at 5:30 PM. b. Friends' of the Library: The next Friends First Friday Coffee in will be October 3rd at 9:30am. The Friends annual meeting will be Tuesday September 23 at 7:00 PM. i. Friends President Carol Jilek received the Forwarc128 award from Senator Julian Bradley at the September 51h Friends First Friday Coffee. c. Building Updates: The parking lot construction project is completed. i. There has been an uptick in mice sightings and captures in the building. We are working with Clayton and Safe Way Pest Control to get the issue under control. Grant/Outside Funding Updates: This is a list of grants or outside funding sources for the current year. i. January 2025: Friends of the Muskego Library Annual Funding Request was submitted to the Friends' Executive Board and approved $15,600. This request generously covers summer reading program expenses, program presenters and materials for all ages throughout the year, our movie license fee, Book Pages 14 subscription, and zoo pass circulation. Thank you to the Friends and the Library staff who help support them! ii. February 2025: Friends' of the Muskego Library and Library staff put on the Love Your Library fundraiser and raised $593.70. They also raised $376.20 from the holiday light recycling drive. Staff applied and received a $400 grant to fund an adult program from the Bridges Library System. iii. May 2025: The Library applied for a Job Pod grant, which would allow us to receive a large, accessible study pod and continue to be a resource to support job seekers in the area and form a deeper partnership with the local department of workforce development. This grant was approved by the Board with an MOU in March 2025. The Job Pod is was delivered and installed on Wednesday July 16, but unfortunately had a damaged glass panel. The replacement was installed on Friday August 29. The official JobPod Launch Party is scheduled for Friday October 3rd at 11:00 am. e. Staff Updates: Administrative Assistant position has closed and we received 84 applicants. Kelsey and the city's Human Resources Director are working on scheduling the first round of interviews. f. County Library Levy: The City Council voted in favor of exempting from the county library levy. 15 Monthly Statistics for Muskego Public Library 2025 IAN FER MAR APR MAY IIIN IIIL ANC IFPT OCT NOV DFC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEPT OCT NOV DEC TOTAL I AUG YTD Checkouts 2019 21,785 21,507 24,231 23,645 21,420 26,506 30,895 26,132 21,640 22,944 20,647 18,821 280,173 196,121 2024 19,250 19,881 20,592 19,958 19,577 25,696 27,952 23,039 19,164 19,817 17,898 17,655 250,479 175,945 2025 19,453 18,742 22,506 20,147 19,089 25,089 26,259 20,764 172,049 172,049 25 vs 24 % Change 1.1% (5.7%) 9.3% 0.9% (2.5%) (2.4%) (6.1%) (9.9%) (31.3%) (2.2%) Overdrive Checkouts (E-books, E-Audio, E-Video, E-Magazines) 2019 2,247 2,119 2,302 2,198 2,232 2,262 2,455 2,351 2,312 2,358 2,220 2,202 27,258 18,166 2024 4,287 4,037 4,361 4,010 4,040 3,902 3,969 4,007 4,044 4,164 3,867 3,861 48,549 32,613 2025 4,583 4,138 4,705 4,378 4,514 4,463 4,761 4,459 36,001 36,001 25 vs 24 % Change 6.9% 2.5% 7.9% 9.2% 11.7% 14.4% 20.0% 11.3% (25.8%) 10.4% Kanopy/Hoopla Play Withdrawal KANOPY 2019 21 29 53 41 75 54 44 62 56 59 58 53 05 379 KANOPY/HOOPLA 2024 500 551 585 639 411 411 430 399 408 417 425 454610 3906 KANOPY 202, 04 74 84 58 93 80 S9 92896 574 HOOPLA 202, ' 477 501 581 318 _ s46 337 6 3624714 1(34.2%) 3,332 KANOPY/HOOPLA 2025 494 420 502 463 461 426 461 469 696 3696 KANOPY 2025 N 122 59 81 73 48 47 50 64 544 544 HOOPLA 2025 372 361 421 390 413 379 411 405 3152 3,152 25 vs 24 % Change TOTAL (1.2%) (23.8%) (14.2%) (27.5%) 12.2% 3.6% 12.4% 17.5% (5.4%) 25 vs 24 % Change Kanopy ONLY 74.3% (20.3%) (3.6%) 25.9% (21.3%) (49.5%) (38.3%) 20.8% (39.3%) (5.2%) Owning Holds Shipped 2019 3,296 2,872 2,914 2,669 2,670 2,975 3,148 2,811 3,107 2,980 2,902 2,495 34,839 23,355 2024 3,309 3,157 3,089 3,518 2,938 3,086 3,302 3,038 3,359 3,062 3,166 2,657 37,681 25,437 2025 3,644 3,011 3,396 3,163 3,012 3,288 3,499 3,169 26,182 26,182 25 vs 24 % Change 10.1% (4.6%) 9.9% (10.1%) 2.5% 6.5% 6.0% 4.3% (30.5%) 2.9% Self -Service Transaction Percentage of Total Circ (Self -check, Online Renewals, and eBook Checkouts/Checkouts and eBook Checkouts) 2019 56.4% 60.6% 62.5% 63.0% 65.6% 63.3% 65.1% 65.2% 66.6% 62.9% 64.0% 65.3% 63.4% 62.9% 2024 53.9% 72.5% 74.1% 75.3% 70.5% 70.9% 72.7% 74.9% 77.6% 77.3% 77.7% 77.2% 72.8% 70.8% 2025 75.7% 71.7% 74.3% 76.1% 75.3% 74.1% 73.5% 74.4% 74.4% 74.4% Curbside Pickups 2024 1 3 7 2 4 0 0 1 2 1 0 3 24 18 2025 1 0 1 2 4 0 0 3 11 11 25 vs 24 % Change 0.0% (100.0%) (85.7%) 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 0.0% 200.0% (54.2%) (38.9%) Library Visits 2019 10,151 11,418 12,525 13,775 10,701 14,463 14,851 13,447 10,803 12,373 11,118 10,601 146,224 101,330 2024 unavailable* 13,206 10,134 11,361 10,035 9,602 54,338 13,206 2025 11,426 11,312 13,167 12,060 13,160 18,226 19,032 10,946 109,329 109,329 25 vs 24 % Change (17.1%) 727.9 % Reference Transactions (DPI defined) 2019 1,182 1,123 1,067 995 1,002 1,211 1,331 1,215 1,171 1,118 987 878 13,280 9,126 2024 822 984 964 966 744 1,139 1,168 1,008 942 837 792 603 10,969 7,791 2025 951 881 967 912 935 1,060 941 869 7,516 7,516 25 vs 24 % Change 15.7% (10.5%) 0.3% (5.6%) 25.7% (6.9%) (19.4%) (13.8%) (31.5%) (3.6%) Technical/Other Information Transactions 2019 0 576 528 427 492 3,152 4,030 1,362 481 536 450 346 12,380 10,567 2024 768 737 777 915 680 2,889 2,609 2,140 656 760 560 520 14,011 11,515 2025 809 749 835 837 669 3,791 3,280 1,686 12,656 12,656 25 vs 24 % Change 5.3% 1.6% 7.5% (8.5%) (1.6%) 31.2% 25.7% (21.2%) (9.7%) 9.9% Meeting Room Use 2019 78 89 107 97 91 87 87 68 78 96 106 78 1,062 704 2024 83 90 101 112 84 90 77 82 85 133 103 72 1,112 719 2025 77 107 100 921 97 85 69 17 644 644 25 vs 24 % Change (7.2%) 18.9% (1.0%) (17.9%) 15.5% (5.6%) (10.4%) (79.3%) (42.1%) (10.4%) *New gates/counters were installed on 1/17/24 and did not accurately capture data Jan -Jul '24. CD Background on Community Service Waiver The library occasionally has community members (minors) come and ask if they can do community service hours (from scout troops, honors society requirements, or Muskego Municipal Court).
