Topics for Discussion
-- Direct Connections to the City of Muskego Sanitary Sewer System
-- Update on Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)
-- Water Capacity Assessment District
(1) Mr. Kroeger mentioned the storm which hit Muskego in April. The sanitary sewer system is
about 1.9 million gallons and we were 6" away from having to start the bypass and dump in the
creek. Levels were monitored by cameras and a lot of clear water was observed in the system.
Residents are probably unaware they are dumping clear water into the sanitary sewer. The City
would like to educate them to get sump pumps to drain water their front yards or drainage
easements. Another option is to put in a skeleton sewer which flows into the storm sewer. It took
48 hours to drain out the sanitary sewer system.
(2) PFAS, the "forever chemical". The EPA came out with their new standards. The DNR standard
was 70 parts per trillion and now the APA rule just adopted by the DNR is 4 parts per trillion. We
have been testing for PFAS for the last year. The City of Muskego is under DNR and EPA.
There are no communities that meet the new standards. We are making sure we are following
all of the rules of the DNR and that we test everything.

(3) After Mr. Kroeger explained the Water Capacity Assessment District and what needs to be
done, he asked how we want to handle them going forward. For now, we are going to do one
specific quadrant from Janesville at Kwik Trip to the north to the city limits and Racine west to
the city limits. This topic will go on a future Committee of the Whole for more discussion.
