MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MARCH 15, 1978
The meeting was called to order at 8:05 P.M. by Ald. Wallner in the
absence of Chairman Ford who was in negotiations. Also present were
Committee Member Van Lanen, Lt. Zabel, Orlo Zlensky, Janice Heckert and
Dorothy Van Lanen.
to Lt. Zabel discussed the General Bicycle Control Policy. Input from
those present included the need for a good education program for
youngsters, the need for publicizing rules in the newspaper, the
distribution of rules and violations at registration time and the
required age of bike riders. The Bike Trail Committee was brought up
and hopefully it can meet soon before the bike season begins.
Ald. Van L9,nen moved to recommend that the Council have Municipal Code
7.18 amended to include information from Chief Kraus's memo dated
2/28/78 which was read by Lt. Zabel. Seconded by Ald. Wallner. The
motion carried. This amendment will enable the Police Department to
enforce the provisions of Municipal Code 7.18 when the violation is
committed by a child.
Upon a request, in writing, to Chief Kraus, Lt. Zabel will speak to
groups regarding bicycle ordinances or other community -police
• relations.
Ald. Van Lanen read and placed on file a letter dated 3/7/78 from
City Attorney Buckley regarding Snow Removal Ordinances which he
drafted for the Village of Butler. Copies were made and given to
Mr. Bertram.

Mrs. Heckert appeared with a concern applicable to the Rules, Laws
and Ordinance Committee. Ald. Wallner deferred action for two weeks.
Ald Van Lanen moved to adjourn. Seconded by Ald. Wallner. Motion
carried. The meeting adjourned at 9:20 P.M.
