PSEM19870716• PUBLIC SEWER COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JULY 16, 1987
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Chairman
Sanders. Also present were Committee Member Dumke, Mayor
Salentine, Sewer Utility Operator Scott Kloskowski, and those per
the attached list. Ald. Hilt was absent.
The Committee discussed the Bellview/Bay Lane Sewer Project. The
Committee reacted to correspondence received from Mr. Nowakowski,
W165 S7612 Bay Lane, asking for a determination of method of
assessing. Mr. Nowakowski was contacted and it was explained
that his only option was to be connected off of Bay Lane and that
the assessment policy of the City is to calculate the assessment
based on the frontage.
Correspondence dated June 19, 1987, from SEWRPC was reviewed
which addressed issues which were recommended to be expanded upon
in the Commission's report of February 12, 1987. The Committee
reaffirmed its decision, based upon the recommendation of the
Public Works Superintendent, that sand bagging would be
sufficient insurance to protect the lift station from flooding.
• The Committee reviewed Attorney's Arenz correspondence of July 6,
1987, indicating that the George E. Rice and Harriet J. Rice
complaint against the City of Muskego Sewer Department has been
dropped.
The Committee reviewed correspondence from Judith Strampe
regarding connection of two properties (Tax Key 2218.981 -
Ludwig/Strampe) on Kurtze Lane to the sewer system. Since the
contractor named in Mrs. Strampe's correspondence has notified
the City that he is not under contract to do the connection, the
Committee directed the Building Inspection Department to proceed
with forced hook-up quotes for the two properties.
The Committee reviewed the progress of the Wentland Drive Sewer
Project. Sewer Utility Operator Scott Kloskowski informed the
Committee that the main should be completely installed by Monday,
July 27, 1987.
Lift Station Modification pre -construction meeting was held and
construction is to be started the week of July 20, 1987.
Mayor Salentine updated the Committee on FLOW.
The Committee discussed the proposed Valley View Heights Sewer
Project. Discussion was held on the cost figures involved with
• the area that requires a lift station at the end of Monterey
Drive which will result in approximate additional construction
costs of $3,950 per lot for the 28 lots. The concensus of the
property owners represented were supportive of the project.

The Committee directed the City Engineer to prepare the plans and
specifications and to bid the project. The area identified on
Hillendale from Sunnyhill south and the Valley View Heights
Subdivision will be served by a lift station with the sewage
being pumped up Gaffney to Hillendale. Mr. Mutza will inform the
City if he desires to install a main extension to serve his
property which has the potential of a six lot division or connect
his home.
The area on Hillendale where the gravity sewer ends at the
Haerter property will cost an approximate $100,000 for the six
homes involved. All represented property owners were opposed to
the extension.
The Committee will determine the non-asessable cost figures for
area B, on the map provided by the City Engineers, at their
August meeting. The Committee directed Mayor Salentine to
proceed with securing the necessary easement from Mr. Alvin
Schaefer.
The Committee reviewed odor complaints at the Sandy Beach Lift
Station with property owners that were present. The Committee
isrequested the City Engineer to evaluate the complaints and offer
suggestions for Committee review. During the discussion of the
odor complaint, Mrs. Brunner stated that the lift station
adjacent to her property was emitting an odor.
The sewer plans were reviewed for Lake Brittany Addn. #1 and met
with the Committee's approval.
The meeting adjourned at 11:05 P.M.
