PSEM19760816SEWER COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD AUGUST 16, 1976
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 P. M. by Chairman
Dumke. Aldermen Colburn, Constantineau and Wallner and Mayor
Gottfried were present. Citizens present were Viola Kurtze,
Judith Edwards, John Zalewski, Ronald Tobianski, June Ellery,
Estel Ellery, Jeanette Zalewski and Alan Andersen.
The committee reviewed the reports from the sewage treatment
plant operator and placed them on file.
Mrs. Judith Edwards and Mr. John Zalewski were present to
discuss with the committee when sewers would be available
in order that approximately 9 acres presently owned by
Mr. Robert Klenz on the corner of Bay Lane and Woods Road
could be developed. Chairman Dumke reviewed with them the
need for sewers in the Bass Bay area. He pointed out,
however, that because of the present limited capacity of the
northwest treatment plant, it was likely that only existing
residences would be able to connect into the sewer system.
He pointed out that there was no way the Sewer Committee or
Common Council could guarantee them the availability of
sewers for that parcel of land.
• Several residents of the Bass Bay area appeared to discuss
with the committee their continuing interest in having sewers
provided for their area. Chairman Dumke explained that the
city engineers, Ruekert and Mielke, have indicated that the
northwest treatment plant could serve the existing residences
along Bass Bay without adversely affecting the quality of
treatment. He indicated that the committee and the Common
Council will have to decide how much area should be included
in the project. In answer to a question, Chairman Dumke
advised that the Health Department had been notified of sewers
being provided for the residences in the Bass Bay area.
Ald. Dumke moved to recommend to the Common Council that the
City's consulting engineers be authorized to begin the
design of the sewer to serve the Bass Bay area. Ald. Colburn
seconded the motion and the motion carried.
The committee discussed the estimated cost as well as the
progress of the plans to provide sewers to the Freedom Acres
and Bay Lawn subdivisions. It was estimated that the cost
of the project would be approximately $600,000. The committee
agreed to recommend to the Common Council that sufficient
monies be borrowed to insure completion of the project.
The status of the proposed sewers for Lake Denoon was reviewed
• by the committee. It was agreed to recommend to the Common
Council to move ahead with the project.
The committee reviewed the non -assessable costs of the several
sewer projects being proposed and what impact that cost would have
on the utility district. It was generally agreed that steps
would have to be taken to make certain that the finances of the
utility district will not be overtaxed.
Ald. Colburn moved to adjourn at 8:56 P. M. Ald. Dumke seconded
the motion and the motion carried.
