PWM19930823PUBLIC WELFARE COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
• MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MONDAY, AUGUST 23, 1993
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Chairman
Patterson. Also present were Committee Members Dumke and
Schneider, Mayor De Angelis, Superintendent John Loughney and
Curt Christi (Best Disposal).
The Committee discussed Status of Recycling, Status of Cable TV
and Status of Landfill Agreements.
Superintendent Loughney discussed with the Committee recent
problems with contamination at the two sites that house the
drums for oil recycling. The location in Tess Corners is now
being treated for contaminates and it is suspected that the
location outside of City Hall may also need to be treated. The
Committee determined that both locations will be closed and
that the oil recycling drop-off will be moved to Stoneridge
Landfill until the end of the year. If the City goes with
city-wide refuse/recycling pickup, another location will have
to be designated; possibly a manned site adjacent to the Police
Station, with specific hours, and located at a site which could
be housed with surveillance camera.
Ald. Patterson moved to establish Sunday, October 31, 1993, as
• the date for Trick or Treat between the hours of 12:00 P.M. and
4:00 P.M. Seconded by Ald. Schneider, motion carried.
The Committee reviewed specifications for proposed city-wide
refuse/recycling collection and determined that closed meetings
will be scheduled for Monday, August 30 and Tuesday, August 31,
1993, for the purpose of negotiating possible contract. The
Committee discussed memorandum from Plan Director Larry Kirch
regarding Storm Sewer Stencilling by a Community Group as part
of Information and Education Strategy for the Freedom Square
Ponds Retro-fit Priority Watershed Project. The City of
Muskego has received a Grant from the DNR for a Demonstration
Project to retro-fit the Freedom Square Ponds. As part of the
Information and Education (I & E) strategy, the DNR funded
$1,500.00 to educate the Citizens in keeping valuable
waterbodies clean. The City has, so far, spent monies to
prepare a photo display on the Demonstration Project for the
Community Festival. One of the strategies is to solicit the
help of a group to stencil the storm sewers in the area of the
Demonstration Project. The kits could then be kept at City
Hall for use by other interested groups. The Committee
directed that letters be sent to Boy Scout groups in the City
to inquire if there is an interest in doing stenciling.
The Committee reviewed Certification of Franchising Authority
and request that it be completed by staff and returned to the
. Federal Communications Commission.
