PWM19920716PUBLIC WELFARE COMMITTEE
- CITY
OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD
JULY 16,
1992
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by Chairman
Patterson. Also present were Committee Members Simmons and
Schneider, Mayor Salentine, Superintendent Loughney, Ald.
Misko, and Bill Ramcheck of BFI Waste Disposal.
Superintendent Loughney appeared before the Committee to
discuss entering into the Waukesha County Yard Waste program.
Waukesha County has selected 0. M. Scott & Sons Company to
handle the recycling of yard waste for participating
communities in Waukesha County. The Committee determined that
there was no interest at the present time. The present
drop-off at BFI on College Court is making that service
available. The Committee was reminded that brush size should
not exceed the 1/2" diameter limitation.
Mr. Bill Ramcheck informed the Committee of the status of the
Solid Waste Incineration Program. The percentage of brush in
relationship to grass clippings exceeds the amount originally
contemplated and different types of machinery are being tested
to incorporate materials into the soil. The Plan Commission,
at the end of the one year review, will be evaluating the
status of the site.
The Committee requests that the "Muskego Sun" be notified to
write an advisory article on brush size stressing the point
that plastic be kept out of yard waste.
The City-wide curbside pickup and recycling was discussed with
Mr. Ramcheck. Mr. Ramcheck will be pursuing with BFI the
possibility of an additional recycling center at the BFI garage
area. The last quarter of 1993 was discussed as a bidding
project for city-wide pickup.
Various methods of distributing recycling boxes to new
residents was discussed such as distributing at time of
Occupancy Permit issuance, through the Welcome Wagon, and
possibly by the Assessor when establishing values.
The Committee directed that a letter be sent to Mr. Ron Peters,
Muskego Historical Society, asking him if he is agreeable to
limbs and brush recycling at the Historical Society site until
November of 1992.
The Committee discussed renewal of Salvage & Recycling licenses
for Jack Glockner and James Kohne. A report from the Plan
Director was reviewed and Ald. Simmons moved to recommend
approval of licenses for 1992-1993. Seconded by Ald.
Schneider, motion carried.

The Committee reviewed Wisconsin Development Fund vs
participating in the Block Grant Program through Waukesha
County and wish to continue discussion providing that a
deadline has not been established for declining to participate
in the Block Grant Program.
The Committee requests that copies of the 1992 Recycling Grant
Application be given to them to be used as an outline for
making their 1993 application.
The Committee requests that the Muskego Woman's Club
representative, Terry Hutchison, be contacted to determine if
the Women's Club has any interest in distributing recycling
magnets as a fund raiser. Also, contact should be made to the
Times Records and Enterprise papers to see if they would be
interested in the magnet distribution.
The meeting adjourned at 9:55 P.M.
