PWM19920514PUBLIC WELFARE COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MAY 14, 1992 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Patterson at 7:05 P.M. Also present were Committee Members Simmons and Schneider, Ald. Misko, Mitch Robbins (Peltz Corporation), and Mary Ellen Ratzburg and Mark Hanley (Laidlaw Waste Systems, Inc.). Mark Hanley and Mary Ellen Ratzburg of Laidlaw Waste Systems, Inc. appeared before the Committee to discuss city-wide garbage pickup, including recycling options. They indicated that they will come back to the June meeting with a Market Test Proposal. The Committee will also review other haulers and research the legal aspects of city-wide garbage pick-up. The Committee reviewed the status of Cable TV and requested that a follow-up be made to Warner Cable to inquire if they had buried the cable drop at W142 56883 Gaulke Drive. A letter had been sent on April 10, 1992, but no reply has been received. The Committee noted that the Stoneridge Landfill Agreement is being finalized. Mitch Robbins appeared before the Committee to discuss newspaper recycling. The Committee requested that the Peltz Corporation hold prices for a minimum of six (6) months. Chipboard has no market value, nor plastic bottles. Peltz is • now charging $20.00 per ton to haul plastic bottles. No notice has yet been received by the City. • The Committee discussed refilling of Recycling Coordinator position. The Committee will set up appointments with two applicants to be interviewed on Tuesday, May 26, 1992, at 6:30 P.M. Ald. Patterson moved to request Public Works Committee to review dumping of tree branches at any time (present site) and to have Supt. Loughney mulch when enough has accumulated. The mulch will then be left at site for citizen use. Tree limb maximum size is 6 feet long x 8 inches in diameter. Seconded by Ald. Simmons, motion carried. The Committee discussed means of distributing recycling magnets to all citizens of Muskego. A possible means of distribution would be as a fund raiser for an organization. A letter will be sent to all known organizations inquiring if there is an interest. The Committee will also check with Muskego Times Record and Badger Advertising to determine costs.
