PWM19901029• PUBLIC WELFARE COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD OCTOBER 29, 1990
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by Chairman
Patterson. Also present were Committee Members D. Sanders and
Simmons, Mayor Salentine and Steve Tietz (Community Newspapers).
Ms. Janet Ruckman, L.F.G., Inc., appeared before the Committee to
discuss possible proposal for Recycling. Her company deals in
commodities and would reuse and recycle all items dropped off;
none would be landfilled. She mentioned that the City of
Burlington and Twin Lakes have contracted with her company.
Wooden containers would have to be purchased or built at an
approximate cost of $70.00 (including signage). A contract would
run for a minimum of one year. Approximately 32 40"x48"
containers would be required. L.F.G. would run an every two week
pick-up program. Ms. Ruckman was interested in recycling figures
for the City's recycling effort and the Committee will furnish
her with a report on the figures. Ms. Ruckman will be mailing
materials on recycling to use for educational purposes. The
Committee felt that a decision would not be made at this time and
that they will be contacting BFI to discuss other options.
• The monthly Recycling effort must be moved to the northwest
corner of Parkland Mall, adjacent to Lannon Drive. The Committee
agreed to a quarterly educational obligation whether that be
cable messages, newspaper ads, flyers, mailings, tax bill insert,
etc. The Committee agreed to start with tax bill insert. They
will review recycling materials and put some kind of brochure
together. The Council will approve the final format at their
meeting on November 13, 1990.
The Committee discussed the status of Cable TV. The Cable Club
has changed microphone setup in Council for improved sound. The
Cable Club is investigating going to a two (2) camera system for
Council. Ald. Simmons noted a seminar on audio -video system use
and will notify Cable Club.
The Committee discussed the status of landfills.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
