MINUTES
OF MEETING HELD
JULY 17,
1990
The meeting was called to order at 5:35 P.M. by Chairman
Patterson. Also present were Committee Members D. Sanders and
Simmons, Mayor Salentine, Superintendent Loughney and those per
the attached list.
Karen Fiedler, Waukesha County Recycling Coordinator, appeared
before the Committee and reviewed tonnage figures of recyclables
by Community. She explained material separation facility as a
public/private enterprise. There will be no tippage fees unless
state funding is eliminated or recyclables do not pay for
themselves. There are 37 communities in Waukesha County and two-
thirds of the communities have expressed their intent to
designate Waukesha County as responsible unit for recycling. Ms.
Fiedler stated that it would be possible for a community to join
at a later date, but problems could arise if the material
separation facility is not large enough at the time of receipt of
request; possibly causing a waiting period. Ald. Simmons moved
to recommend the City of Muskego as the responsibile unit for
Recycling at this time. Seconded by Ald. D. Sanders, motion
carried.
The Committee reviewed Cable TV Status. A resident has voiced
concern of Channel WTTW and Channel WHA being dropped by Warner
Cable without notification. The Committee requests that a letter
be sent to Warner Cable Co. asking for explanation.
The Committee reviewed the status of landfills. It was noted
that with the closing of Stone Ridge Landfill, there might be a
possibility that Waste Management will allow free dumping to
citizens of Muskego at the Metro Landfill site in Franklin.
The Committee reviewed correspondence from Waukesha County
Environmental Action League urging the City of Muskego to declare
Waukesha County as their responsible unit.
The Committee reviewed correspondence from State of Wisconsin-DNR
regarding Recycling Grant information and procedures.
The meeting adjourned at 7:05 P.M.
