PWM198807210 PUBLIC WELFARE COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JULY 21, 1988 The meeting was called to order at 8:30 P.M. by Acting Chairman Taube. Also present were Committee Member Penovich and Steve Tietz, reporter from Community Newspapers. Chairman Patterson was absent. The Committee discussed annual renewal of agreement with HAWS for animal pick-up. Ald. Taube moved to recommend Council approval. Seconded by Ald. Penovich, motion carried. The Committee reviewed correspondence from Parks Supervisor Peter Theis regarding the Parks and Recreation Board request that Chapter 26, Section 26.01, lc, be amended to state that animals, especially dogs, not be allowed in the parks with the exception of seeing eye dogs, etc. This action is on behalf of citizen complaints, staff complaints and health concerns. The present ordinance reads "all animals must be on a leash, not greater than six feet in length, or otherwise under control of the owner at all times". Ald. Taube requests response from Parks Supervisor Peter Theis as to whether an ordinance to require owners of pets to remove animal "waste" would be preferred to an ordinance • outlawing dogs entirely. This item will be further reviewed at the August meeting. The Committee reviewed Mayor Salentine's correspondence regarding request for Temporary Habitation of a Trailer for Craig Lawdanski, W165 58254 Kurtze Lane. Due to time constraint, Mayor Salentine has granted approval. The Committee reviewed status of landfills and Muskego Landfill Volume report for the second quarter of 1988.
