PWM19850315• PUBLIC WELFARE COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MARCH 15, 1985
The meeting was called to order by Acting Chairman Gaetzke at
10:00 A.M. Also present was Committee Member Hilt, Ald.
DeAngelis, Mayor Salentine, Seegar Swanson, Vi Joy and Mike
Mooney.
Financial Consultant Swanson reviewed the source of revenue for
the water utility. The largest users of water are in the
Industrial Park. Seegar stated that the Public Service
Commission sets the charges for the water utility and not the
Council.
The Committee reviewed the water charges from other communities.
Muskego rates would be unknown until the Public Service
Commission sets the rate. The rate is set by amount the system
costs plus the amount of money needed for upkeep and payback.
Users of the water system pay an additional charge for fire
protection systems.
Under New Berlin's rates a small business in the Industrial Park
• would pay $23.62 per quarter using a 5/8" meter. A larger user
having a 4" meter would pay approximately $3,193.00 a quarter
using approximately 10,836,000 gallons per year. Tudor Oaks was
an example. Seegar stated the average minimum charge for small
users would be $18.64 per month and the quarterly charges would
be from $55.89 to $118.14 per quarter for most customers. An
ordinance would have to be adopted to control existing wells on
properties that are connected to the water utility.
Mike Mooney stated the savings in fire insurance premiums in the
Industrial Park would almost offset the water usage charge. Mike
Mooney will contact Insurance man to get figures on what the
savings would be between a 9 rating and a 5 rating.
A meeting will be scheduled for Tuesday, at 1:30 P.M. with Waste
Management to get more information on the contribution to the
Water Utility.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Ald. Dan Hilt
Secretary
