PWM19801110• ` PUBLIC WELFARE COMMITTEE - CITY OR MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD NOVEMBER 10, 1980 The meeting was called to order at 8:07 P,M, by Chairman Weed. Also present were Committee Members Steinberg and Van Lanen and Aid. Knudsen. i Aid. Steinberg gave a masterful presentation on his research to date regarding cable television. He had attended a nine hour meeting on 11/10/80 for cable television in Whitefish Bay. He plans to attend a follow-up meeting on 11/19/80 in Whitefish Bay regarding, the three finalists in the quest for the franchise for the north shore communities. Aid. Steinberg spoke to the need for a cable television consultant for the City of Muskego as soon as possible, Aid. Steinberg spoke about the inportance of a Citizen Ascertain- ment Board. The board should be chosen from names provided by the seven aldermen. One person from each district making up the board. Aid. Steinberg spoke about an emergency or disaster or civil defense warning system that could be provided by a cable tele- vision company to communities, Aid. Steinberg moved that a cable television consultant be hired for the City of Muskego. Dr. Stroud was recommended by Aid. Steinberg. His fees would be charged to the cable company granted the franchise. Seconded by Ald. Van Lanen. Motion carried 3 - 0. Aid. Steinberg moved that a Citizen's Ascertainment Board be appointed by Mayor Gottfried as soon as possible, The Citizen's Ascertainment Board would be chosen from a list of five names from each aldermanic district. The list will be submitted by each alderman from that district. Mayor Gottfried will choose two of the five names presented. Mayor Gottfried will choose one person at large from each aldermanic district for a total of 21 citizens. The sole purpose. of the Citizen's Ascertainment Board will be the determination as to the wants and needs of Muskego's residents. Names should be submitted on or efore ovember 24, 1980 to Mayor Gottfried. The motion was seconded by Aid, Van Lanen, Motion carried 3 - 0. • Letters from Teleprompter Cable T.V. and Total T,V, were read and placed on file. Letter from Mr. Kreuser was read and placed on filet Aid. Van Lanen moved to adjourn. Seconded by Aid, Steinberg. Motion carried 3 - 0. The meeting adjourned at 10:20 P.M.
