PWM19801029PUBLIC WELFARE COMMITTEE CITY ,OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD OCTOBER 29, 1980 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Weed at 7.05 P.M. Present were Committee Members Steinberg and Van Lanen. Also present were Aldermen Knudsen, Radtke, Dumke, Salentine, Mayor sottfried, and Charlie Fox, Via Com, Milwaukee. Mr. Fox presented his compan3+'s Cable T.V. proposals and impressed upon the committee to, "take 'its time". Letters from Nor Com Video Inc. were read and placed on file. A letter from Greendale relating to cable T.V. was also read and placed on file. Discussion on cable television continued. All applications should be in by November 1, 1980. However, the time limit for a proposal request could be extended from 45 to 60 days. The following is data brought to our attention by Ald. Steinberg from Ald. Nabors and Dr. Stroud. 1. consultant needed • 2. consortium; city. and county wide 3. taking our time 4. advertising revenue - how much back to the community 5. our ordinance should indicate a return of advertising revenue to the city 6. we may have to re -do our application Upon Ald. Van Lanen asking about the role of the consultant, Ald. Steinberg strongly advocated for a private consultant, naming Dr. William Stroud as an excellent one. Ald. Knudsen presented a need for more educational programs and channels. Mayor Gottfried suggested having an advisory committee for Muskego. West Allis had one, as does Greenfield. He expressed his concern about geography and demography. The Mayor indicated that the Muskego Police Department could do a check on Cable Companies. Mayor Gottfried will write to The Cable Television Information Center, 2100 N. Street N.W., Washington, D.C., 20037. Extensive discussion was held about the landfill site and resolution. #183-80 deferred from the October 28, 1980 Common Council meeting. Ald. Knudsen elaborated on his concerns regarding LECHATE pollution of ground water at the landfill site. Q7ayor Gottfried explained the present plans approved by the DNR for the landfill site. Ald. Weed moved to send resolution #183-.80 to the Common Council as drafted by the Mayor. Seconded by Ald. Steinberg. Passed 3-0 Ald. Steinberg moved to adjourn. Seconded by Ald. Van Lanen.
