PWM19790131PUBLIC WELFARE COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JANUARY 31, 1979
• The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ford at 7:35 P.M. Also
present were Aldermen Van Lanen, Aldermen Wallner and Pienkos, Blenda
Treba, Ed Turzinski, Wayne Heckman, and Mrs. Van Lanen.
Alderman Van Lanen moved to introduce a resolution to the common
council to honor Jerome Stueber of Muskego who has been selected
• "Wisconsin's Teacher of the Year". Seconded by Alderman Ford.
Motion carried.
The committee discussed setting up a "Hotline" service to be used
during a snow emergency by the elderly, disabled, or anyone with a
genuine emergency. The purpose of the program will be to match
volunteers with those people who need transportation, shoveling,
or other help necessitated by a storm situation. Alderman Ford
agreed to contact Police Chief Scholz to see if their lobby
conference room could be used for the program along with an unused
phone line. Mr. Heckman and Mr. Turzinski agreed to solicit
volunteers from the senior citizen's organizations to operate the
program. It was noted that the area snowmobile clubs already have a
free program to provide transportation during snow emergencies.
Alderman Pienkos mentioned that he had friends and neighbors who
volunteered to help during the last storm.
The committee agreed that the program would operate only during a snow
• emergency situation and would provideassistance only for those in
real need.
The committee will continue to consider the possibility of setting up
a "hotline" for senior citizens which would be primarily to provide
information about programs or services available to them.
Alderman Van Lanen moved to adjourn at 9:10 P.M.. Seconded by
by Alderman Ford. Motion carried.
