Design Drawing Review
Dear Matt:
April 27, 1998
We have reviewed the revised design drawings prepared by D&D Services for the
referenced project. The drawing revision date is 4/24/98. We received the drawings on
4/27/98. The following recommendations apply to the revised drawings.
1 The conduit in the floor between the pump starter panel and the future flow
• switch should terminate under the piping centerline at the flow switch
instead of where shown.
o 2. With the new style pump, an air/vacuum release valve should be installed
between revised lineshaft pump discharge head and the check valve.
01< 3. If the heater is to remain in the northeast corner of the pump house, the
heater should be selected and installed such that the clearance under the
heater is at least 7 feet and the clearance from the heater to the roof hatch is
at least 1 foot.
The following items are referenced to other submitted drawings
4. We received a submittal from Municipal Well & Pump, Inc. on 4/20/98
which included the well data requested in our 4/15/98 review letter. In
addition, the City should be given a copy of the DNR approval letter for the
well. The submittal also included a Proposed Grading Plan prepared by
Municipal Well & Pump, Inc. dated 1/6/98 which does not agree with the
grading shown on the water main design drawings prepared by Metropolitan
Engineering, Inc. dated 4/9/98. This item was item 6 of the April 15, 1998
letter.
5. Slurry backfill should be used between the connection to the existing water
main and the proposed valve. The water main design drawing prepared by
Metropolitan Engineering, Inc. dated 4/9/98, revised 4/20/98 calls for gravel
• backfill.

6. Although we received a facsimile from Dick Milaeger regarding pump
access, we anticipate there will be difficulty pulling the well pump if the
pump house is oriented as shown on the drawings prepared by Metropolitan
Engineering, Inc. There would be little clearance available for a pump
pulling rig. Either the rig would have to be set up partially on the
neighboring property or the rig would have to stop at the west edge of the
pump house and lower its boom excessively. Access to the pump would be
much easier if the pump house were rotated 90 degrees. Access for possible
future work on the well also would be made easier by rotating the pump
house.
Please call if you have questions on the above.
Very truly yours,
RUEKERT & MIELKE, INC.
