Conservation Commission -Minutes-20060710 Conservation Commission Approved City of Muskego Minutes of Meeting Held on Monday, July 10, 2006 Bill Miller called the meeting to order at 6:35 PM at the Engel Conservation Property. Present: Mr. Howard Schneider, Mr. Bill Miller, Ms. Sharon Roy, Ms. Karen Hartwell and Conservation Coordinator Tom Zagar. Absent: Alderman Melcher (excused), Mr. Ted Decker (excused) and Len Pilak (excused) The meeting was posted on July 3, 2006 in accordance with the open meeting law. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES - A motion was made by Bill Miller to approve the Conservation Commission minutes of April 24, 2006. Seconded by Sharon Roy and carried by all. OLD BUSINESS EROSION CONTROL PROJECT ON HOLZ ISLAND – LITTLE MUSKEGO LAKE – This item is deferred. CONSERVATION EASEMENT FOR THE RIDGES CONSERVATION LANDS LOCATED IN THE SE ¼ OF SECTION 6. – This item is deferred. DISCUSS IMPLEMENTATION OF MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING TREE MITIGATION – This item is deferred. DEVELOPMENT OF ENGEL CONSERVATION AREA – This item is deferred. DISCUSS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CITY OF MUSKEGO CONSERVATION PLAN UPDATE – This item is deferred. NEW BUSINESS VOLUNTEER COORDINATION AND ACTIVITY PLANNING FOR SATURDAY JULY th 15 GRAND OPENING OF ENGEL CONSERVATION AREA – Conservation Coordinator Zagar explained the sequence of events that will take place on Saturday July 15, 2006 (10:30 am to 2:30 pm) for dedication and opening of a new Engel Conservation Property. He will start the dedication with a brief discussion on the history of the property, how it was acquired by the city and the future of the site. He explained the Engel Conservation Property is a 150-acre site with self-guided nature trails through prairies, wetlands, and woodlands managed by the City of Muskego. The property was purchased with assistance from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Stewardship Program and developed with assistance from the USDA- NRCS, Wisconsin Waterfowl Association, Eagle Scouts, and other dedicated volunteers. Mayor Charles Damaske will be present for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Conservation Commission Meeting July 10, 2006 Page 2 Guided tours will be conducted and refreshments will be served. Conservation Coordinator Tom Zagar led Commissioners on a tour of the property. MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS - Nothing new to report. MEETING DATE- At this time, Commissioners did not set a date for the next meeting.
