BMLDDepMin101602 Draft/unapproved BIG MUSKEGO LAKE/BASS BAY PROTECTION & REHABILITATION DISTRICT DEPUTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING HELD WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2002 Greg Burmeister called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. Those present were Deputy Commissioners Larry Schweitzer, Greg Burmeister, Steve Wojnowski and Tom Kies. Lakes Projects Coordinator Tom Zagar was also present. Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The meeting was posted in accordance with the open meeting law. APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING’S MINUTES – The committee reviewed the minutes for the July 29, 2002. A motion was made by Larry Schweitzer to approve the minutes of the July 29, 2002 meeting, seconded by Steve Wojnowski and carried by all. VOUCHER APPROVAL – no vouchers to approve. NEW BUSINESS SELECTION OF CHAIR AND SECRETARY – The committee selected officers as part of the first order of business. Greg Burmeister was selected by acclamation to chair the committee. Tom Kies was selected by acclamation to become the new secretary of the committee. UNFINISHED BUSINESS STATUS OF REHABILITATION MANAGEMENT – Survey numbers will be crunched in 2 weeks or so- results will be available after completed with surveyors written comments. Greg Burmeister suggested we invite the professor who is doing the survey to a future meeting. Status of ongoing rehabilitation continues clearing weedy vegetation on north island and should be a priority for the fall or coming winter. STATUS OF ONGOING PROJECTS – Greg Burmeister removed the duck blind posts and had great success with the derrick he devised. The committee discussed the project to repair the dike on the southwest side of the lake. The DNR has yet to acquire easements or agreements from the two landowners to conduct the project. Tom Zagar will talk to Randy Schumacher about “dike” or “dam” ongoing challenges. Randy Schumacher will most likely attend our next meeting. Tom Zagar stated outdoor lights would be installed at Boxhorn Public Launch following the compliant lakeshore lighting plans. DEVELOPMENT OF LAKE MANAGEMENT PLAN – Tom Zagar sketched five scenarios of lake management for the members. Tom Zagar said the committee would have to get Lake Management District approval to enact any of the management options. PLACEMENT OF BRUSH ON OSPREY PLATFORMS – The commissioners agreed to place brush on osprey platforms this winter to facilitate potential nesting in spring. COMMUNICATION AND ANY OTHER BUSINESS AS AUTHORISED BY LAW The committee set the next meeting date for December 3, 2002.
