BMLDDepMin012102 BIG MUSKEGO LAKE/BASS BAY PROTECTION & REHABILITATION DISTRICT DEPUTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING HELD MONDAY, JANUARY 21, 2002 The meeting was called to order at 6:37 PM. Those present were Deputy Commissioners Larry Schweitzer, Greg Burmeister, Steve Wojnowski and Scott Godleski. Also present were Lakes Projects Coordinator Tom Zagar. There were no minutes available from the September 25, 2001 meeting. The committee discussed upcoming projects, such as the Purple Loosestrife Project that Tom Zagar is working on. The project will be expanded this year with Lake Denoon interested in rearing Gallerucella beetles. Greg Burmeister asked why there are snow fences around the islands. Tom Zagar stated that the purpose is to keep birds off the island due to their uprooting of the immature prairie plants. Due to last years winter kill, the oxygen levels of the lake were a topic of concern to the deputy commissioners. Greg Burmeister volunteered to use a dissolved oxygen kit to monitor the levels. The committee discussed if there was any value to the use of aerators. The committee discussed the current vegetation on the islands. Elimination of the woody plants was to be done in spring. The method of elimination would be to treat with herbicide. Cutting and treating for purple loosestrife will be done on Island #’s 1 and 2, with beetles used on Island # 3. Regarding new business, Tom Zagar’s grant application for the lake management plan was discussed, as well as a possible need for a future drawdown to reestablish emergent plants. The weed harvester needs maintenance. Conveyer repairs will be needed. A new city launch site is to be operated at Boxhorn’s. There was a motion to adjourn the meeting and it was seconded; motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:03 PM. Respectfully submitted, Greg Burmeister, Secretary Big Muskego Lake Deputy Commissioner /mlp
