BMLM072500 MINUTES OF MEETING BOARD of DEPUTY COMMISSIONERS - BIG MUSKEGO LAKE/BASS BAY PROTECTION & REHABITATION DISTRICT DATE: Tuesday, July 25 , 2000 TIME: 6:30 PM LOCATION: Muskego Public Library Janesville Road Muskego, WI 53150 The meeting was called to order by Deputy Lake Commissioner Leonard Pilak. In attendance were Deputy Commissioners Pilak, Lawdanski, Klenz, Grunfelder and Ryan. It was noted that the meeting had been properly posted as required by the Open Meeting Law. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Status of rehabilitation management of Big Muskego Lake/Bass Bay - The wildlife program that introduced the Osprey bird onto Big Muskego/Bass Bay is still ongoing. This last month, four Osprey became ill and were taken to the wildlife Rehabilitation Center where they died. There are three remaining Osprey and they are being monitored and fed by local residents. The lake remains low to reduce pressure on the dike which is in the process of being repaired. Local residents are distributing the weevils on their properties in hope of eliminating the purple loosestrife. Due to the the wet/rainy season, it has been difficult for the weevils to proliferate. Residents are monitoring any changes and feel with the dryer/warmer months of July and August, the weevils should proliferate. Status of ongoing projects - An environmental group called Enviro Science Inc. based out of Stow, Ohio will be doing a survey on the eurasian water milfoil in Big Muskego/Bass Bay at the end of August. This group was approved by the Wisconsin DNR. Plans to spray for weeds have been canceled. At the request of Enviro Science, it is necessary that the lakes be left in their natural state in order to reach an accurate evaluation. From this survey, the lake district of Big Muskego/Bass Bay will be able to effectively treat the weeds in the summer of 2001. The survey will designate problem areas and the best options for treatment(herbicides, aquatic weevils ...). A report from the DNR from the fish shocking tests on Big Muskego/Bass Bay in May will be available at the end of August. The issue of boating safety has shown an improvment . Complaints of boating incidences as well as incident reports have sharply decreased from last summer. NEW BUSINESS An agenda for the Annual lake district meeting was outlined by Commissioner Pilak and the Deputy Commissioners. Upcoming issues to be discussed: Lake Management/Wildlife programs, Issues/Concerns from local residents (questionaire/survey form available at meeting ), Budget proposal. ADJOURNMENT - Motion to adjourn by Cindy Ryan at 8:00pm. The next meeting will be held on August 29, 2000. Cindy Ryan, Secretary
