BMLDDepMin02202001 Big Muskego Lake/Bass Bay & Rehabilitation District Board of Deputy Commissioners Minutes of Meeting Held Tuesday February 20, 2001 The meeting was called to order at 6:30 by Andy Grunfelder Deputy Commissioners present: Curt Klenz and Larry Schweitzer Lake District residents present: Leonard Pilak Staff present: Tom Zagar (City) It was noted that the meeting had been noticed in accordance to the Open Meeting Law. The minutes of the December 5, 2000 meeting were read and approved by Curt Klenz and seconded by Larry Schweitzer. Carried by all. Unfinished BUSINESS Leonard Pilak stated that with the winter-kill there will be a need for the DNR to restock Big Muskego Lake and other lakes in the area. The fish in Big Muskego should grow fast as they did in ’97 and ‘98. Leonard Pilak talked about ongoing DNR projects. The DNR hopes to finish the work on the dike this year. The DNR is also continuing to look into land purchases for the Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area. Tom Zagar stated that he is writing an aquatic plant management and protection plan for Big Muskego Lake/Bass Bay. This will set strategies for control of Eurasian watermilfoil, purple loosestrife and other plant nuisances. He is also working on applying for a permit to control Eurasian watermilfoil this summer (treating approximately 30 acres on Bass Bay and 10 acres in the Big Lake) with 2,4-D herbicide. Osprey nest poles are now wrapped with sheet metal to stop predators from climbing up. Leonard stated that the first Ospreys stocked (1998) might be returning this year to mate and nest. NEW BUSINESS Two aerators are now working on Bass Bay and the oxygen levels are being maintained in a healthy range. The district is again looking for volunteers to raise beetles to help control the Purple Loosestrife. Tom Zagar stated that he would purchase about 400 beetles from the DNR.
