BIG MUSKEGO LAKE/BASS BAY PROTECTION & REHABILITATION DISTRICT
BOARD OF DEPUTY COMMISSIONERS
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1998
The meeting was called to order by Deputy Lake Commissioner Leonard Pilak on October 7,
1998 at 7:00 P.M. in the employees’ lounge at Muskego City Hall. It was noted that the
meeting had been properly posted as required by the open meeting law.
Present were Deputy Commissioners Pilak, Klenz, Lawdanski, Schwitzer, Grunfelder, Lake
Projects Grant Administrator Tom Zargar and 3 private citizens.
Kevin, one of the citizens present explained to us that on the afternoon of October 2, 1998, he
was out on Big Muskego Lake to make final preparation to his duck blind. While on the lake a
boat that was traveling too fast to stop hit him broadside and sunk his boat. After removing his
motor and gear, the other boater towed him back to Boxhorns Gun Club, removed his items
from the boat and left without saying another word.
Terri Bennet expressed concern that a speed limit or slow no wake should be for the entire
lake or at least in the narrow channels to avoid this from happening.
Lenny said that the Boater Safety Course offered by the Muskego Police Department at
Waukesha Medical Clinic had a great turnout and we may consider another next year.
Grant Administrator Tom Zargar said the information/dedication board is in the process of
being installed. The handicap ramp and pier had been installed, but the wheelchair ramp was
stolen shortly after being installed. A new wheelchair ramp has been ordered and will be
chained in place. Parking stops have been donated by Dick Bennet and will be placed on the
paved lot soon.
Leonard Pilak handed out the quotes for the 6 wheel all terrain vehicle that will be equipped
with tracks and a winch. There was a $200.00 difference between the 1999 model and the
1998 model. It was the opinion of the commissioners present to go ahead with the new model
at a cost of about $7,734.00 to be ordered from East Troy Marine.
Osprey have been sited a few times. They are expected to begin their migration south at
anytime.
Little Muskego Lake should begin their drawdown any day and should provide us enough time
to remove the excess water prior to ice on.
Discussion Re: Duck Blinds: The warden asked that we hold off on an ordinance reference
permanent blinds. The warden, with the help of a GPS (Global Positioning Satellite), is going
to be mapping the blinds and making sure they are removed.
The next meeting for deputy committee will be the first Wednesday in December.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:02 P.m.
Secretary,
Curt Klenz
