BMLM20120124BIG MUSKEGO LAKE/BASS BAY PROTECTION & Approved 3/27/12 REHABILITATION DISTRICT BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS *Revised MINUTES OF QUARTERLY MEETING HELD TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2012 Mayor Chiaverotti called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. at the Muskego Lakes Country Club, S100 W14020 Loomis Road. Present were Commissioners Fiedler, Schaumberg, Soltysiak, Werner, Borgman, Harenda, and Snead, Conservation Coordinator Zagar and Deputy Clerk Blenski. Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The Deputy Clerk stated the meeting was noticed in accordance with the Open Meeting Law. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Borgman moved for approval of the October 25, 2011 minutes. Commissioner Harenda seconded; motion carried. There were no vouchers that required approval. OLD BUSINESS Deputy Commissioners Update Regarding Current Condition of Lake/Bay, Water Levels, Plant Growth, Fish and Wildlife Mr. Zagar stated the current lake condition is back to full pool as a result of the November rainfall. A winter kill will probably be avoided with the late ice formation and minimal snow cover. There has not been a lot of fishing activity. The osprey platform on the west side of the lake has been leaning the last few years. WE Energies was contacted to see if they would provide assistance to straighten the pole. There was a fall weed treatment on Bass Bay. It is likely that chemical weed treatment will not be needed until summer. Commissioner Harenda asked how lowering the level benefited the lake. Mr. Zagar responded that the intentional lowering of the lake was to expand emergent plant vegetation. There is a lot more vegetation and habitat for wildlife. Mr. Zagar acknowledged that the lowering did affect the use of the lake, but it should benefit the ecology of the lake in the long run. Status of Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area - Land Acquisition by the DNR *Mr. Zagar stated that land around the Dumke Pond was acquired by The Conservation Fund through the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) Greenseams program. This land will ultimately be deeded to the DNR like other Greenseams acquisitions, such as in Franklin. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Snead moved to adjourn at 6:54 p.m. Commissioner Fiedler seconded; motion carried. Minutes taken and transcribed by Jill Blenski, CMC
