OLD BUSINESS
Deputy Commissioners' Update
• (Current Condition of Lake/Bay: Water Levels, Plant Growth, Fish and Wildlife)
Deputy Commissioner Pilak stated the lake level is far below what it would normally be
at this time of the year. The reason is that it was a dry summer and there was not much
rain during fall. The reduced lake level is good for shoreline protection against the ice.
People need to be aware of what is going on because there are many areas of open
water not only on Bass Bay but on parts of the lake as well.
Mr. Pilak stated that one upcoming project was the deconstruction of the osprey
platform. The structure is quite large and will be removed when the weather is cold
enough.
Mr. Pilak also noted that another project that was planned was the removal of woody
vegetation on one of the islands. The project has been put on hold because of the open
water.
Status of Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area - Land Acquisition by DNR
Deputy Commissioner Pilak reported that the DNR was working to acquire a 15-acre
parcel east of Schultz Rod & Gun Club. The governor was to sign the paperwork on
January 15. Mr. Pilak stated he does not know if that took place. A certified survey
map is scheduled to be done by February 28, 2006. The property consists of swamp
is
and lowlands.
