BMLCommM20050628BIG MUSKEGO LAKE/BASS BAY PROTECTION & REHABILITATION DISTRICT BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS (Unapproved) MINUTES OF QUARTERLY MEETING HELD TUESDAY, June 28, 2005 The meeting was called to order at 7:52 PM by Mayor Damaske. Also present were Commissioners Madden, Schroeder, Salentine, Melcher, Borgman, Buckmaster, and Patterson; City Attorney Molter, Clerk -Treasurer Moyer, Conservation Coordinator Zagar, and Deputy Commissioners Pilak and Kies. Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The Clerk reported the meeting was noticed in accordance with the Open Meeting Law. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Salentine moved for approval of March 22, 2005 minutes. Commissioner Buckmaster seconded, motion carried. The Commissioners received a report of the approved vouchers and vouchers needing approval for the period of 3/22/05 to 6/28/05. Commissioner Salentine moved to approve payment in the amount of $11,227.70, which included an invoice from Marine Biochemists for $10,187.50. Commissioner Melcher seconded, motion carried. OLD BUSINESS Deputy Commissioners' Update (Current Condition of Lake/Bay: Water Levels, Plant Growth, Fish and Wildlife) Tom Zagar reported that some weed treatment had taken place for Eurasian Water Milfoil. Purple Loosestrife control — the beetles are working well. Fishing is good. There is a nesting pair of Osprey on the Lake. A draw down of the Lake is not required each year by the DNR and there is not a plan right now for a draw down. Status of Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area - Land Acquisition by DNR Tom Zagar reported that new staff at the DNR are working on the land acquisition. NEW BUSINESS Discuss Existing and New Projects Leonard Pilak reported that the old boxes for Osprey would be taken down. There are no new projects planned at this time. Discuss completion fish barrier project - contacting landowner of the area of the south half of failing dike The fish barrier project is partially complete. The north one-half is finished. The new DNR land agent may help with the south one-half of the failing dike. An easement is needed and the landowner is not cooperating. Discuss potential signage to warn boaters of blind corners in channel to Bass Bay There was discussion concerning whether there is too much muck in this area which would make it difficult to put a sign up. Motion by Commissioner Salentine, second by Commissioner Melcher to allow the sign if the proper bottom can be found to put the sign in, motion carried.
