BMLCommM20011113`'- BIG MUSKEGO LAKE/BASS BAY PROTECTION & REHABILITATION DISTRICT BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS (Approved 1/22/02) MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING HELD TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2001 The meeting was called to order at 7:23 p.m. by Mayor De Angelis. Also present were Commissioners Slocomb, Le Doux, Patterson, Petfalski, Salentine, Sanders, and Wichgers, Deputy Commissioners Schweitzer and Bing, City Attorney Trindl, Clerk - Treasurer Marenda, and Deputy Clerk Blenski. The Clerk -Treasurer reported the meeting was noticed in accordance with the Open Meeting Law. NEW BUSINESS Discussion and Possible Action - Purchase of Weed Cutter Commissioner Slocomb stated a used weed cutter is available for purchase at a cost of $9,500. He presented rationale to support the district's purchase of the equipment. The lake is experiencing problems with cattail debris. A contractor was hired to perform weed cutting this summer; however, only a minimal amount of work could be done because the lake level was down. The cost to the district was $3,200. Now all the contractors that do this type of work have put their equipment away for the season. Commissioner Slocomb looked at the weed cutter with Deputy Commissioner Schweitzer and Jay Erdman of the Little Muskego Lake District. All believed it was worth purchasing. Volunteers would be required to perform the weed cutting; Mr. Erdman agreed to assist with training. Deputy Commissioner Schweitzer expressed support for the purchase comparing the cost of the minimal work that was done to what the district would pay to own its own equipment. Commissioner Salentine stated she is confident about the purchase if Mr. Erdman looked at the equipment. His knowledge in this area has saved the Little Muskego Lake District money. Commissioner Petfalski asked about maintenance costs? Commissioner Slocomb responded that the equipment would probably be used between 50 to 100 hours per year. He anticipates 10 gallons of diesel fuel used per day. In addition, other minor parts need to be maintained because of normal wear. Commissioner Patterson expressed concern about who would be allowed to operate the weed cutter. Commissioner Slocomb stated the deputy commissioners would manage the equipment and use. Mr. Pilak noted there usually are not that many people that volunteer. He does not anticipate any problems; use of the district boat provides a good ,- example. Commissioner Salentine moved to purchase the weed cutter at a cost of $9,500. Commissioner Petfalski seconded; motion carried.
