OLD BUSINESS
Review Restoration Projects and Discuss Future Projects
Mr. Zagar stated 40 acres of the lake would be treated for eurasion water milfoil this
year. In addition, he would like to begin a program to eradicate purple loosestrife
utilizing beetles. The beetles can be purchased from the DNR. Mr. Zagar intends to
purchase 400 beetles, which should produce a population of 40,000. The bugs would
be released toward the end of summer. Mr. Zagar anticipates riparian owners would be
willing to assist with the project to propagate the beetle population. Mr. Zagar will
coordinate the program.
Mr. Pilak distributed pictures of various lake activities and noted the lake level was very
high because of all the snow melting. He requested that the Dept. of Public Works
monitor the amount of water emptied into Big Muskego from Little Muskego Lake. Mr.
Pilak also presented photographs showing the sheeting of the osprey nesting poles,
which was a test project. The sheeting should prevent animals, such as raccoons and
weasels, from disturbing the osprey nests.
Regarding the purple loosestrife eradication program, Mr. Gultch on Groveway Lane will
again be contacted to participate in the beetle propagation program. What has been
discovered is that higher ground produces more weevils. Island 3, which is heavily
infested with purple loosestrife, will be used to test the eradication.

numerous conversations with Mr. Jackley, however, nothing formal has been submitted

Update on Islands, Fish Restocking, Public Access and Carp Barrier
Mr. Zagar stated that students from St. Leonard School would provide assistance to
propagate prairie plants to be transplanted on the three islands.
Mr. Zagar stated the DNR will continue to repair the failing dike on the southwest end of
the lake to prevent carp from getting in. They are looking to complete their $200,000
project and waiting to see if they will be funded in their next fiscal year. The DNR will
also be stocking the lake with fish, including one million northern pike fry, 10,000
northern pike fingerlings and 30,000 large mouth bass fingerlings.
Status of Winter Fish Kill - Big Muskego Lake
Mr. Zagar stated there is a contingency plan to gather floating fish if they come over the
dam.
NEW BUSINESS
Development of Aquatic Plant Management Plan for BigMuskego Lake & Bass Ba 9 y
Mr. Zagar stated the DNR would like the district to explore the different alternatives for
nuisance and invasive aquatic plants. He is developing a plan for Big Muskego and
Bass Bay using a plan prepared by SEWRPC as a guide. In the event the Lake District
would purchase a mechanical harvester in the future, the Recreational Boating Facilities
Grant demands that an Aquatic Plant Management Plan be in place.
Mr. Pilak also gave an update on the aeration that took place. He believes that any
dead fish have decomposed by now and does not anticipate any problems with fish
floating over the dam.
ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Slocomb moved to adjourn at 7:45 p.m. Commissioner Sanders
seconded; motion carried.
Respectfully submitted,
J K. Marenda, CIVICr C Clerk -Treasurer
