UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Status of Rehabilitation Management: Deputy Commissioner Pilak reported the DNR
is counting fish as part of the rehabilitation project, and are reporting a lot of fish almost
legal size. They are just checking the Big Lake at this time, and not Bass Bay. Cattail
burning will be proceeding shortly. A postcard will be mailed to residents. Individuals
do not need a permit from the DNR for burning cattails in front of their own shoreline.
Status of Ongoing Projects: Mr. Pilak advised he has been working with the
University of Wisconsin Extension regarding sending out a survey on boating
regulations which should go out by the end of May. As to bug raising to attack the
purple loosestrife, that project will be carried out in June. Also in June the osprey
program will continue when another six osprey will be received. The dike at the south
end of the Big Lake is in need of repair. DNR representative Randy Schumacher has
procured about $250,000 for the installation of that dike. They have been getting
permissions and easements from the landowners. Mayor asked if anyone was
participating in the crane count as they are doing in Vernon Marsh, and Mr. Pilak
responded not that he is aware of.
Status of Big Muskego Lake Feasibility Study: Nothing to report. Mr. Pilak
requested this issue be removed from the next agenda.
Status of Conservancy Program and Funding: Mr. Pilak asked what the City is
doing and what is planned. Mayor advised the City is in the RFP review phase to do
the plan. Once through that process a committee will formulate a conservation plan.
One of the large parts of the plan is to do a City-wide review of all the City's environs
and then prepare an action plan. The make-up of the committee is anticipated to be
the stakeholders of various groups and it will be discussed at the next Finance
Committee meeting.
Update on questionnaire for boating problems: Mr. Pilak advised the questionnaire
will be to determine if there really is a problem. See comments in Ongoing Projects
above.
