PSM19930812• PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 1993
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Chairman
Misko. Also present were Committee Member Sanders, Ald. Taube,
Building Inspection Director Chuck Dykstra and those per the
attached list. Committee Member Woodard was absent.
The Committee reviewed the attached report from Chuck Dykstra
on status of Condemnations.
There were no updates on existing forms and ordinances.
The Committee reviewed correspondence dated July 20, 1993, from
Mr. Richard A. Bolte, Waukesha County Department of
Transportation, responding to the City's letter of July 1, 1993
concerning the intersection of CTH Y at Hillendale Drive. The
County's inspection of the area does not reveal any unusual
problems. The accident history cited does not seem to be
higher than normal. In response to the City's suggestions, the
County responded as follows:
1. Signs - The County does not install "Dangerous
Intersection"signs as a matter of policy. They believe
• it opens the County to liability for failure to correct
the "dangerous"location. The County also does not install
"children crossing" signs.
2. Speed Limits - The County will take the necessary
steps to make the two speed limit reductions requested by
the City; reduce the present 50 mph zone (College to
Williams Drive) to 45 mph and reduce the present 40 mph
zone (Williams to Janesville Road) to 35 mph. The
process should take about 8 to 10 weeks.
Ald. Sanders moved to accept the County's recommendations.
Seconded by Ald. Misko, motion carried.
Property owners from Bay Breeze Condominium Association
appeared at the meeting to express their safety concerns for
parking along Park Drive off of CTH L (Janesville). Ald.
Sanders moved to request the Police Department to study the
area and make a recommendation for the September meeting
concerning parking and accident history. Seconded by Ald.
Misko, motion carried.
The Committee reviewed Ald. Woodard's request for a "Slow -
Children at Play" sign to be installed at the intersection of
Lakes Parkway and Daisy Drive. Ald. Misko moved to approve.
Seconded by Ald. Sanders, motion carried. Ald. Woodard will
• contact Supt. Loughney to give specific location.
