Dear John:
The Public Safety Committee at the May meeting directed me to
pursue condemnation of the following properties: W188 S7658 Oak
Grove Road and W193 S6776 Hillendale Drive.
In talking with you last week, you mentioned that the judge that
handles these cases requires a substantial amount of information
be provided to successfully condemn these structures.
I am forwarding the information I have compiled to date regarding
these properties for your review. My primary concern had been in
relation to the 50% rule and not so much in regard to absolute
structural collapse. Regarding value, there is no question to
these properties being subject to condemnation.
The Oak Grove property has been purchased by people who want to
board it up and then raze it in a year or more. They claim to not
have the money to raze it now. Public Safety does not want to
wait.
The Hillendale property is being sold and the site will be
subdivided. The developer has agreed to raze the building,
however, they are having trouble removing the woman living there.
I have red tagged the home and testified under oath in Waukesha
that this home is unfit for human habitation. It appears that the
woman is living in a detached garage on the property at this time.
