PSM19881110• PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD NOVEMBER 10, 1988
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Chairman Taube.
Also present were Committee Members Sanders and Patterson, Police
Chief Johnson, Mr. William Schultz and Mr. James Shmid.
Mr. William Schultz appeared before the Committee to discuss his
concerns with burning of leaves in his neighborhood. He feels
that the burning ordinance is not being properly enforced and he
is in favor of a "no burning" ordinance. Chairman Taube
recommended that if a smoke problem is severe, Mr. Schultz should
contact the Police Department to ascertain if the ordinance is
being violated. Ald. Taube recommended that the local papers be
contacted to determine from the citizens their reactions to the
present burning ordinance. Seconded by Ald. Patterson, motion
carried.
The Committee discussed with Police Chief Johnson the report on
present street lights. Ald. Patterson moved to recommend
converting all 400 watt mercury vapor lights on Janesville Road
in the Tess Corners area (Poe's Place to Durham) and the Muskego
proper area which runs from approximately Bay Lane west to Racine
• Avenue to 200 watt blue sodium vapor and all other city -owned
intersection lights shall be 100 watt blue sodium vapor.
Seconded by Ald. Taube, motion carried.
The Committee reviewed correspondence from Gene Kovacs, Assistant
Director -Planning & Development, regarding renaming a road in the
Durhamswood Addn. #2 Subdivision. Chief Johnson had requested
the change because the roadway is an extension of Settler Way
from Phase I of the subdivision to the West, and is a continuous
street which does not intersect with any existing streets. The
recommendation is that the names Homestead Drive and Freedom
Avenue be changed to Settler Way. The intent is to eliminate a
potentially confusing situation which might delay emergency
services from responding as quickly as possible. Ald. Patterson
move to change the names of Homestead Drive and Freedom Avenue to
Settler Way. Seconded by Ald. Taube, motion carried.
The Committee reviewed the signs south of the High School and
Chief Johnson advised that the intersection of Woods Road and
Racine Avenue is being patrolled by the Police Department at peak
hours. The Committee recommends that a letter be sent to both
County Supervisors asking their assistance in requesting Waukesha
County to install a traffic signal at the intersection.
The Committee reviewed condemnations and a memorandum from the
Director of Planning & Development dated November 10, 1988
advising that Mr. Ken Brown (W126 59485 North Cape Rd.) has
applied for a building permit, has supplied the City with a
sanitary permit issued by Waukesha County and has submitted a

survey with the proposed house staked out. The Committee agrees
with the recommendation that upon receipt of the fee for the
title search and the building permit fee, a letter will be
written to Attorney Macy to withdraw all condemnation proceedings
from the court and subject the permit to the existing building
being raized within 30 days after final inspection of the new
dwelling.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 P.M.
