PSM19880602• PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JUNE 2, 1988
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by Chairman Taube.
Also present were Committee Members Sanders and Patterson, Mayor
Salentine, Public Works Superintendent Loughney, Building
Inspector G. P. Lee and those per the attached list.
The Committee reviewed the following condemnations with Building
Inspector G. P. Lee.
W126 S9485 North Cape Road - Nothing has been
heard from Mr. Bown since May meeting. Deferred
until July meeting. Building Inspector Lee will
contact Mr. Brown to be in attendance.
S79 W16197 Bay Lane Place - A permit taken out
on May 6, 1988 and a report is due in Municipal
Court on June 18, 1988.
S83 W15249 Mystic Drive - Dwelling removed.
S83 W15349 Mystic Drive - Portion of the Building
• still standing. Deferred until July meeting.
The Committee discussed duplicate street names and various
options were given as to the best solution for renaming Lake
Drive to prevent confusion for emergency vehicles. A petition
from residents objected to the proposed renaming because of the
cost and inconvenience in changing all of their identification
materials. The potential of having the 911 phone system was
discussed which would solve the problem of directing emergency
vehicles. Ald. Sanders moved that Lake Drive remain unchanged
due to grid system which identifies the exact location of
homes. Seconded by Ald. Patterson, motion carried.
Correspondence from Police Chief Johnson dated May 11, 1988, was
reviewed in regard to request to install stop sign on the
southwest corner of Lake Drive at the intersection of Wildwood
Drive and Lake Drive. Chief Johnson recommended not installing a
stop sign at that intersection because it would not control the
speed of the vehicles, vehicles have to slow down in order to
make the 90' turn, and because there has been no history of any
accidents at that intersection. Ald. Taube moved to deny
request. Seconded by Ald. Sanders, motion carried.
Ald. Taube moved to direct the Public Works Superintendent to
erect a "Slow - Children Present" sign on Gaulke Court. Seconded
by Ald. Patterson, motion carried.

The Committee reviewed correspondence from Lt. Daley regarding a
concern he received about a potential traffic hazard at the
intersection of STH 24 and Kristin Drive. The concern was with
diminished visibility for drivers exiting Kristin Drive at
Janesville Road where there are vehicles parked along the south
side of Janesville Road between Kristin Drive and the eastern
driveway of William's Supper Club. Ald. Paterson moved that one
"No Parking To Corner" sign be installed in that area. Seconded
by Ald. Taube, motion carried.
Correspondence dated May 27, 1988 from Police Chief Johnson which
the Committee requested for information on Tornado Sirens. The
City of Muskego has four (4) fire department sirens. Two each
for Tess Corners and Muskego Fire Departments. When the Police
Department receives a weather advisory message, the alarm button
is pressed at the Police Department dispatch center. This button
activates the two Tess Corners Fire Department's sirens, one at
each of their stations. Muskego Fire Company's sirens are not
connected to the dispatch center.
Wisconsin Department of Transportation correspondence of May 11,
1988 was reviewed which responded to the Committee's request for
the State to enforce "No Parking" regulations within 150 feet of
an intersection at STH 24 and Tess Corners Road. In order to
post "No Parking" signs, the City will have to pass legislation
and the enforcement of any regulations would be the
responsibility of the Police Department. Ald. Patterson moved to
defer to give the Police and Fire Departments an opportunity to
review and determine need. Seconded by Ald. Taube, motion
carried.
The Committee reviewed request for speed limitation sign on
Lochcrest. Ald. Taube moved to defer and request the Police
Department to provide surveillance for enforcement purposes.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 P.M.
