PSM19860709• PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JULY 9, 1986
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Taube at 7:20 P.M.
Also present were Committee Member Sanders, Chief Johnson, Roger
Ottmann, Barbara Ottmann and John Heise. Ald. Penovich was
absent.
The mintutes of the previous meeting were reviewed.
Supt. Bertram's report on Island Drive parking was reviewed. He
recommends that the bushes on the property of Howard J. Helme,
W180 S6845 Muskego Drive, be trimmed since they encroach upon the
overall width of Island Drive at its entrance to the cul-de-
sac. Mr. Helme will be contacted and asked to cooperate in this
matter. Supt. Bertram will remeasure the width of Island Drive
to determine if an overall 15 foot width is available for entry
and exit by emergency vehicles after the bushes have been
trimmed.
Ald. Taube moved to install a street light at the intersection of
East Street and Martin Drive which is warranted by the fact that
this is an entry to a Subdivision. It was also recommended that
a "Caution -Children Present" sign be installed on East Drive at
the entrance from Martin Drive. Seconded by Ald. Sanders, motion
carried.
The Committee reviewed the traffic flow at the northwest corner
of Highway 45 & 00 and it was suggested that the Waukesha Highway
Department be contacted to recommend that they repaint the white
marker line to provide more accurate direction and/or erect
marker poles at the intersection to direct westerly traffic so
they don't drive through Erdmann Motor's parking lot on the
northwest corner.
Recent correspondence received from Mr. Harvey Shebesta, District
2, Director of State Traffic Engineer for Highways, was
reviewed. The Committee agreed with the State's plan to reduce
the speed on Highway 24 to 35 mph from Lannon to Bay Lane.
However, the Committee was opposed to changing the existing 50
mph speed limit east of Bay Lane to west Durham and the Clerk's
Office is requested to inform the Traffic Engineers of our
position on this matter.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Harold F. Sanders
Secretary
