PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD APRIL 13, 1983
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 P.M. by Chairman Colburn. Also
present were Committee Members Tomczyk and Nilsson, Lt. Johnson, Ald.
Penovich, Alderman -Elect DeAngelis, Mrs. Ruth Hough and Mr. Duane
Elertson.
The committee discussed the possibility of voluntary fingerprinting
of children. Lt. Johnson, representing the Police Department, advised
the committee that at the present time the Police Department is not
prepared to handle the fingerprinting of children. He further stated
his department was not adverse to the program, however, they are not
fully prepared. Ald. Nilsson had suggested probably volunteer help
could be used to help with the program such as Safety Town, the Lion's
Club, etc. Chairman Colburn suggested to hold off and let Ald. Nilsson
further research the program.
Chairman Colburn reported that he felt at this particular time the
committee has not been able to get the State to act on the traffic
signals at S.T.H. 24 and Lannon Drive. Ald. Tomczyk moved to have
10 Chairman Colburn write to Mr. Vince Demshar, Waukesha County Highway
Commissioner, regarding the traffic signals if and when S.T.H. 24
becomes a county truck highway. Seconded by Ald. Colburn. Motion
carried.
The committee reviewed the applications for Dog Warden. Ald. Colburn
suggested the committee interview four applicants who have indicated
a desire to serve as dog warden at an open wage and parttime which is
what the city and committee is primarily interested in.
A lengthy discussion followed regarding how long an animal should be
held before taking it into HAWS in Waukesha. Also discussed was
what fee should be charged for an animal at large that may be at
HAWS. The holding facility the City of Muskego has is not too desirable
and to have the police department feed and care for the animals is far
too costly to hold them for any lengthy period of time.
The committee shall try to interview the applicants before the next
month's meeting.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 P.M.
