PSM19800918. PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD SEPTEMBER 18, 1980
The meeting was called to order at 7 05 P M, by Chairman Knudsen
Also present were Committee Members Steinberg and Van Lanen, Lt. Zabel,
Mayor Gottfried, Representative James Rutkowski, Senator Lynn Ademan
Mr John White of the State Department of Transportation and several
citizens.
7 A lengthy discussion took place regarding the possibility of having'
traffic lights installed at the intersection of Lannon Drive and
S.T.H. 24. Mr, John White of the State Dept of Transportation
advised the committee that their studies have shown that a traffic light
is not warranted. He also indicated that the cost of traffic lights
at an intersection is approximately $45,000.00 each sand Chat monies were
not available because of the State's financial condition. The
committee discussed with Mr White and the interested citizens
alternatives which might be available and which might improve the
situation. Mayor Gottfried indicated that perhaps the city and state
could cooperate in this matter. Ald. Van Lanen moved to authorize
the police department to conduct a traffic survey at the intersection
of S.T H. 24 and Lannon Drive. Seconded by Ald, Steinberg. Motion
carried. Mr. White indicated when that survey is received the state
could then become involved in the matter, Ald, Knudsen moved to
request the state submit written alternative solutions to the problem
as well as the findings of their engineers. Seconded by Ald, Van
Lanen. Motion carried,
The committee discussed with Mrs, Pat Feldman, Animal Warden for the
City, several concerns which have surfaced, Ald, Knudsen moved that
the Animal Warden, in the event she is absent from her phone, shall
call the police department and advise them of that fact, Seconded
by Ald. Van Lanen. Motion carried,
Ald. Steinberg moved that Mayor Gottfried be requested to advise all
aldermen, as well as the police department, which animals Mrs.
Feldman is authorized to pick up, her phone number and what arrange-
ments had been made for the disposition of animals which she is not
authorized to pick up, Seconded by Ald, Van Lanen; Motion carried,
Ald, Knudsen moved that Mayor Gottfried be requested to clarify, in
writing, who has jurisdiction over the Animal Warden, Seconded by
Ald. Van Lanen, Motion carried,
After receiving a report from Lt, Zabel regarding the request to
reduce the speed limit on Lincoln Drive from 25 mph to 15 mph the
committee denied the request,
Ald, Knudsen moved to request the Finance Committee to authorize the
purchase of a large trap as soon as possible, three days maximum.
• Seconded by Ald Steinberg, Motion carried,
Chairman Knudsen will contact Mayor Gottfried regarding securing a
new written contract for Mrs, Pat Feldman, The Feldman family refuses
as of this date, 9/18/80, to work without a written contract because
of a non-existent insurance coverage,
Ald, Steinberg moved to adjourn, Seconded by Ald, Van Lanen, Motion
carried, The meeting adjourned at 11:30 P,M,
