• MINUTES OF MEETING HELD AUGUST 28, 1980
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Knudsen at 7 40 P.M.
Committee members Steinberg and Van Lanen were present. Also
present were Bill and Jessie Masterson, Richard Tolman, Senator
Lynn Adelmann, Lt. Zabel, Mr. and Mrs. Rondeau, Mrs Kathy Bedding,
Pat Feldmann and Dorothy Van Lanen.
Once again an extensive discussion took place about problems at
Hwy. 24 and Lannon Dr.. Mr. Tolman described his accident at this
intersection on August 22, 1980 at 6.23 P.M. He also told of his
effort in this matter six years ago Mr. Masterson attributed this
problem to bureaucratic policies set up in individual departments within
the state. Mrs. 'Masterson urged 4 way stop signs at this location.
She also suggested petitions. Aid. Van Lanen gave a short history of the
problem over the past 3 years, including the petitions which were
received in the past. Aid. Knudsen believes another petition will
help this time because increased population has made the problem
worse. Petition sheets will be prepared by Chairman Knudsen. Chairman
Knudsen asked Lt. Zabel to have Chief Scholz and the Police Department
strenuously support alleviating the traffic problem at Hwy 24 and
Lannon.
Senator Adelmann explained the procedures of the Department of Trans-
portation. He will plead our case to the Department of Transportation
but the Department will make the final decision. Senator Adelman will
• contact Chairman Knudsen on August 29, 1980 regarding a meeting with
Mr John White of the Department of Transportation. The Department
will be invited to Muskego in the 1st two weeks of September to talk
about this traffic problem.
Mr and Mrs. Rondeau and Mrs. Bedding presented their long time problem
of reducing the speed limit.on Lincol-n Drive -from 25 to 15 m.p..h.. A
short background of this problem presented by Aid. Van Lanen, included
the Public Works Annual Tour two years ago. Pros and cons were discussed.
Lt. Zabel said others throughout the city would follow with similar
requests.
Aid. Steinberg, based on a recent experience in his own district, strongly
suggested that citations be issued as a deterent to this problem
Lt. Zabel volunteered a traffic study take place on Lincoln and Cook
Drives beginning immediately. Aid. Van Lanen moved that this traffic
study and surveillance be done and that the Police Department report
their findings to the Committee on September 18, 1980 Seconded by Aid.
Steinberg. Motion carried 3 - 0.
A concerned discussion was held on who was to pay for over -time
policemen who had to be called due to the brawls at the varied Fests
in Muskego. It was questioned as to what kind of reputation Muskego was
getting.
Mrs. Feldmann appeared to ask once again for the city owned trap that
has not been available for months. The first one she procured from
the city fell apart and is not useable.
Aid. Knudsen will contact Mrs. Eiger about this matter on August 29, 1980
Mrs. Feldmann also requested a new letter of appointment. Aid. Van Lanen
moved that a letter of re -confirmation be sent to Mrs. Feldmann from
the Finance Committee. Seconded by Ald. Steinberg. Motion carried 3 - 0
Mrs. Feldmann will bring her books and records to the next meeting.
Ald_ Van Lanen moved to adjourn at 9:29 P.M. Seconded by Aid. Steinberg.
Motion carried 3 - 0.
