MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JUNE 13, 1979
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by Chairman Tomczyk.
Also present were Aldermen Pienkos and Weed (committee members), Lt.
Earl Zabel, Police Chief Kraus, Mrs. Jean Sanders, Mrs. Sophie Hoppe,
Ak Mrs. Jerri Nelson, Ald. Van Lanen and Mayor Gottfried.
Ald. Pienkos moved, seconded by Ald Tomczyk to approve the
minutes of the May 9, 1979 meeting. Motion carried.
Mrs. Jean Sanders, Gold Drive, appeared before the committee to voice
her concerns about underground tanks for the purpose of storing
gasoline. Mrs. Sanders requested that the tank in her area be
removed or filled and that no further installations of residential
gasoline tanks take place. Ald. Van Lanen, Chairman of the Rules,
Laws & Ordinance Committee, explained the information he h-as been
able to find concerning this matter. Discussion took place on this
matter. The committee requested that Building Inspector Lee check
into the matter and that Ruekert & Mielke also check into it to
determine what can be done.
• Mrs. Sophie Hoppe and Mrs. Jerri Nelson appeared before the committee
to find out if anyone had applied for the Humane Officer's position.
Only one person had responded to the city's advertisement but this
person did not have adequate space to house the animals. Several
alternatives were discussed:
1. Maintaining the present service.
2. Hiring a person to house the animals and then take them
to the Humane Animal Welfare Society in Waukesha
3. Contract with H.A.W.S.
4. Heating the shelter that is presently being used.
5. Trial period using a combination of the above.
Mayor Gottfried and Chairman Tomczyk will talk with Mr. Whitehouse
and Dr. Lee Elger to talk to them about the alternatives that have
been discussed. The committee indicated to Chairman Tomczyk that if he
deems it appropriate an ad will be placed for purposes of filling this
position according to these alternatives.
Chief Scholz appeared before the committee to explain a traffic study
done at the intersection of Bristlecone Lane and Hale Park Drive
regarding a four-way stop sign. Discussion took place regarding this
matter. Action was deferred in order to give the committee an
opportunity to view the area in question. In regard to safety, Ald.
• Weed suggested ideas such as the installation of "sleepy policeman"
to regulate traffic.
Mrs. Philaja, S72 W16226 Carolyn Ct., appeared before the committee
to express her concern about truck traffic in Guernsey Meadows,
especially in the area of Carolyn Ct. and Vine St. Mr. Philaja was
most concerned about speeding in the area. The committee requested
that additional surveillance take place within the area.
Chief Scholz discussed with the committee his request for two
additional officers beginning September 10, 1979 and also that a
tentative approval be given for his request for an additional
sergeant's position beginning January 1, 1980. Following discussion,

Ald. Pienkos moved to recommend to the Finance Committee approval of
a sergeant's position beginning January 1, 1980 Seconded by Ald.
Weed. Motion carried. Ald. Pienkos moved to recommend to the
Finance Committee approval of an officer's position beginning
possibly January 1, 1980. Seconded by Ald. Weed. Motion carried 2-1
with Ald. Tomczyk voting "no".
The committee reviewed the complaint of a parking problem in the
Idle Isle area brought to the attention of the committee by Ald.
Ford. The Police Department recommended "No Parking" in the area
of Muskego Drive and Hardtke Drive during three months of the year
in the summer season. The committee will view the area as well as
the intersection of Bristlecone Lane and Hale Park Drive.
The committee discussed the speeding traffic on Crowbar Drive in
the area of Parker Drive near the Scholbe home. It was their
recommendation that "Caution - Children Playing" signs be installed
on Crowbar Drive going in both directions.
Ald. Weed requested additional police surveillance in the area of
Cornell Circle in District II.
The committee reviewed Fire Department reports from 5/7/79 to
5/30/79 and placed same on file.
Building Inspection reports from 5/25/79 to 6/7/79 were reviewed
and placed on file.
Ald. Pienkos moved to adjourn. Seconded by Ald. Tomczyk. Motion
carried. The meeting adjourned at 9:37 P.M.
