PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MAY 9, 1979
The meeting was called to order at 7 10 P.M. by Chairman Tomczyk. Also
present were Ald. Pienkos, Mayor Gottfried and several people whose
names appear on the attached sheet (approximately 30 people)
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and placed on file.
Discussion took place regarding the position of Humane Officer. No
one as yet has contacted the city regarding this position. Mayor
Gottfried will check as to how the advertisement was placed in the
newspaper
Discussion took place regarding the study of street lights on S.T H
24 from Poe's Place to Tess Corners Drive. Mayor Gottfried indicated
that by our next meeting he will have a report by the Electric Company.
Mrs Mary Sharzyuski, Chairman of the North Cape Road Coalitiion
read a statement regarding the heavy trucking along County Highway "00"
(Statement attached). Also a petition signed by 250 people was
presented The peition stated "We, the undersigned, petition to stop
through trucking on County Trunk "00" either by posting "no through
trucking" signs, or change the road classification from a Class "A"
to a Class "B" highway.
County Board Supervisor George Guhr explained the position of the county
and mentioned the County Corporation Counsil and the City of Muskego's
legal counsel might haves to work together to determine what could be
done.
Discussion took place on the matter. Mayor Gottfried stated he would
contact the Village President of Hales Corners and Mayor Fadrow of
Franklin to determine their position on the question of whether or not
Highway "00" should be closed to through trucking traffic.
Ald. Tomczyk moved to recommend to the Common Council the adoption of
a resolution urging that the County Board establish a 40 mph speed
limit on Highway "00" and further that.action be taken to prohibit
through trucking on Highway "00". Seconded by Ald. Pienkos. Motion
carried
The North Cape Road Coalition was commended for their work in this
matter
Mr Jorgenson of the Wisconsin Department of Transporation appeared
before the committee Mr Jorgenson discussed the recent history of
Highway 24 regarding the variety of studies done on this highway.
Specifically the intersections of Highway 24 and Lannon Drive and
Highway 24 and Tess Corners Drive were discussed Mr Jorgenson
indicated that the accident history, as well as other items did not
warrant traffic signals or 4-way stop signs at these intersections.
Mr. Jorgenson did say that another survey would be taken during the
summer and welcomed input and participation by the committee and other
interested people in this stuc:y. Mr Jorgenson said that certain
criteria had to be followed in order to maintain standards and
consistency.
Mr Jorgenson indicated that a survey would also include a study of the
speed zones on S.T.H 24 and at the suggestion of one of the residents
in the audience indicated that a study could be made before school is
recessed for the summer.
Bike paths along Highway 24 were discussed. Bike paths cannot be
marked cn state trunk highways. Citizen concerns were brought before
the committee in regards to the need for bike paths. A petition
signed by 50 people was submitted to the committee requesting "a walk-
way or bike path for children and pedestrians using Highway 24 from
Guernsey Meadows to the Parkland shopping area" (Attached)

Mr. Milam, W203 S11082 S Denoon Rd , requested a street light on
is Point Denoon Road and a "No through street" sign. The committee
recommended that a "no through street" sign be posted. The committee
will view the area However, Mr. Milam was informed that it is fte
city's policy not to place street lights for interior streets.
Citizens concerned about the traffic in the area of Kelsey and Muskego
Dam Drives were advised the Public Works Committee will view the area
on their annual public works tour to be held on June 7th.
Ald Salentine, representative of residents in the Sixth District,
requested that a "caution - children" sign be placed on Crowbar and
Parker Drives. The committee will view the area.
Mr. Richard Koput appeared before the committee to request an
extension of time to use machinery in the area of Pioneer Drive.
The committee will view the area in question_
• Concerned citizens requested further surveillance on Racine Avenue
near the Heads Up Tavern.
Lt. Scholz appeared before the committee to request the DNR for an
all year permanent buoy to be placed at the intake near the dam on
Little Muskego Lake. Ald. Pienkos moved to recommend to the Common
Council that the DNR be so requested Seconded by Ald. Tomczyk.
Motion carried
The Police Department is requesting a water patrolman for Little Piuske€
Lake.
Ald Pienkos requested that a traffic study be made for a possible
4-way stop sign at the intersection of Hale Park Drive and Bristle -
cone Lane
Ald Pienkos moved to adjourn Seconded by Ald Tomczyk 1•;otion
