MINUTES OF MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 14, 1979
Present were Committee Members A1d.,Pienkos and Ald. Van Lanen, Bud
Bridgham, Art Rinderle, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis C. Dill, Gerri Nelson,
• Sophie Hoppe, Dorothy Van Lanen, Janice Heckert, Mr. Damaske, Mr.
Zlensky, Mayor Gottfried and Ald Wallner.
Mr. and Mrs. Dill spoke about Daisy Lane being a hazardous spot for
school buses to enter Highway 24. Representatives of Muskego Transport
were present to say they would be willing to cooperate with the Public
Safety Committee and School Board. Mr. Damaske stated that the problem
would be discussed at the next School Board meeting. Chief Scholz
was requested to submit a report on Daisy Lane and Highway 24
After not receiving any information from Chairman Tomczyk and the
Mayor, Mrs Hoppe and Mrs. Nelson came in person to hear an explan-
ation of why the cog catcher neglects to follow directions of the
Common Council. In order that Mr. Whitehouse be accountable to
someone, Ald. Pienkos will contact Chief Scholz regarding the
responsibilities of a dog warden and suggest Mr. Whitehouse be under
the supervision of Chief Scholz _
• To better serve the community, Mrs Van Lanen requested that the
Dog Warden post lost dogs as stated in State Statute 174 10 "A dog
warden to whom a dog is delivered shall carefully read the 'lost
and found' column of local daily newspapers to determine whether or
not a dog is therein advertised which answers the description of any
such impounded dog. If such owner be unknown the dog warden shall then
post written notice in three public places in his town, giving a
description of the dog etc.". Ald. Pienkos indicated the posting
of animals should be done as he will contact Mr. Whitehouse. Since
.many people do not seem to know that Muskego has a dog catcher, Ald.
Pienkos suggested a press release be made regarding Muskego's pound.
Alternatives to a dog warden were discussed. Mayor Gottfried will
write to neighboring communities about costs of animal care and
disposal.
A survey of neighboring communities on Dog License Fees, taken
January 16, 1979 was distributed and will be discussed at the next
meeting. Also at the next meeting Mr. Whitehouse will be invited to
attend.
A letter from Kohler, Wisconsin, regarding devices, "sleepy policemen"
was read and placed on file.
A letter from Mayor Gottfried to Mr. Casper, dated 1/2/79 and a
response from Mr. Casper to Mayor Gottfried regarding stop signs at
• the exits onto Highway 24 and Lannon Drive from the Parkland Shopping
Center were received, read and placed on file.
A letter from Mr. Lee to Sindic Olds, dated 1/16/79, regarding hooded
or beamed lights in the parking area so that they do not create a
glare to adjacent residential property was read and placed on file.
The Dog Catcher Reports for 1/29/79 to 2/12/79 were reviewed and
placed on file.
The Tess Corners fire report for l/l/79 to 1/31/79 was read and
placed on file.
The Consolidated Monthly Analysis for the month of January, 1979
from the Muskego Police Department was received and placed on file.

A letter from Mr Jorgensen, dated 2/5/79, regarding a study of
• Highway 24 and Tess Corners Drive and Lannon Drive respectfully,
was read and placed on file Mayor Gottfried will invite Mr.
Jorgensen to the Public Safety Committee meeting on 3/14/79 to
discuss this important matter.
Ald Van Lanen asked Mayor Gottfried about communication from
Horn Brothers relating to the tractor -truck traffic on Pioneer
Drive backing into Kristin Downs. Mayor Gottfried informed the
committee that residents contact police when trucks are seen backing
into Kristin. Ald. Van Lanen indicated that a Kristin Downs resident
informed his. that contact can also be made with Capt. Jorgensen or
Lt. Clark of. the State Police, 782-9600 to report the violation.
Ald. Van Lanen distributed a list of toll free numbers, one of
which was the National Flood Insurance Hotline, 800-424-8872 They
will give information regarding a program to provide federally subsi-
dized flood insurance ir, hazardous areas.
