MINUTES OF MEETING HELD DECEMBER 13, 1978
The meeting was called to order at 7:04 P.M. by Chairman Tomczyk.
Also present were Committee Members Van Lanen and Pienkos, Police
Chief Scholz and Ald. Wallner, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Peck, Mr. Bill
Schaller, Mrs. Jerri Nelson, Mrs. Sophie Hoppe and Mayor Gottfried.

East Drive, appeared before the committee to express their opposition of
changing the street name they reside on from East Drive to Marlan Drive.
They explained the inconvenience that will occur because of this proposed
change (Driver's License, identification information and change of
address to relatives and friends) Police Chief Scholz explained the
need for easy identification for emergency purposes. The committee
discussed the possibility of changing Marlan Drive to East Drive. It
was the committee's decision to investigate the possibility of changing
Marlan Drive to East Drive. Mayor Gottfried will contact the developers
regarding this matter and we will wait their response by the next
meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Peck and Mr. Schaller would like to be re -
invited to the Safety Committee meeting if changing the street name
from East Drive to Marlan Drive is not possible.
Concern was also expressed regarding the construction traffic that will
be traveling on Muskego Drive. The committee will request police
• surveillance of the area when building takes place in the spring
and make recommendations.
Mayor Gottfried is requested to contact the City of Kohler, Wisconsin
to ask for information regarding "sleepy policemen" road bumps that
they use.
Humane Officer Reports from 10-2-78 to 10-30-78 were received and
placed on file.
Correspondence from the Building Inspection Department, dated 11/16/78
to 12/13/78, was received and placed on file.
Police Chief Scholz brought before the Safety Committee a request for the
establishment of a new Sergeant's position in the Muskego Police
Department, effective April 16, 1979. It was the committee's decision
not to recommend establishment of this position this year.
Mr. Duane Whitehouse, Humane Officer, appeared before the committee.
He advised the committee that he will have to use bottled gas to heat
the animal shelter. The building is insulated and heat will be in
next week. The $3,000.00 that was allocated for the improvement of
the present shelter in the capital budget will not be needed. The city
will reimburse Mr. Whitehouse for cost of heating the shelter.
• Committee is awaiting response of local businesses regarding voluntary
placing of "stop" signs at the entrance of Parkland Mall, A&P Store
and First National Bank of Waukesha.
The committee is awaiting a reply from the Electric Company regarding
survey of street lights on S.T H. 24 near St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and placed on file.
Correspondence was reviewed from Chief Scholz, dated 12/8/78, regarding
weight restriction on Valley Drive and vehicles parking on various
streets, expecially during snow storms. Chairman Tomczyk will contact
Mr Horn regarding problems relating to this correspondence as it
relates to Pioneer Drive and Kristin Drive.
Committee requests Mayor Gottfried to contact Mr. William Kasper re-
garding "Yield" signs in the Sentry Foods and Jerome Drugs parking area.
Ald. Pienkos moved to adjourn, seconded by Ald. Tomczyk. Motion carried
