PSM19781109n U PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD NOVEMBER 9, 1978 The meeting was called to order at 7:11 P.M. by Chairman Tomczyk. Alsc present were Committee Member Pienkos, Police Chief Scholz, Ald. Wallner, Mrs. Dorothy Van Lanen, Mrs. Sophie Hoppe and Mrs. Gerry Nelson. (Committee Member Van Lanen was not present due to a previous ` commitment and indicated this conflict in a memo to the committee). Discussion took place regarding the heating of the present animal shelter. It was stated that the gas line has been installed and Mr. Whitehouse is presentlylooking for a used modene unit. The minutes -of the previous meeting were reviewed and placed on file. It was the decision of the committee to hold their next meeting on Wednesday, December 13th at 7:00 P.M. A discussion took place regarding the driveway of the Muskego Beer and Liquor store located at the intersection of Highway 24 and Center Drive. The committee decided, on the basis of a verbal police report by Chief Scholz which indicated no accident problems at this • intersection, that there is no safety hazard at this time and therefore recommended no change. The secretary of the Safety Committee was requested to send a letter to Mr. Whitehouse asking him to appear at the December 13th meeting to discuss with the committee the heating of the animal shelter. Discussion took place regarding "stop" signs at the entrance/exit spots at the parking lots on Highway 24. On the basis of a police report the committee requests Mayor Gottfried to contact the follow- ing businesses to put up "advisory stop signs" (at their expense): Parkland Mall A & P Store adjacent to Ronnie's Mobile station First National Bank of Waukesha Discussion took place regarding a request for a street light on Highwa 24 at the driveway east of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. It was the de- cision of the Committeetohave the Electric Co. do a survey of the area ai recommend the proper installation of street lights. The committee requests specifically that a light be placed in the vicinity of the driveway east of St. Paul's Church. Mayor Gottfried is requested to contact the Electric Company in this matter. Regarding a request from Building Inspector Lee to rename East Drive • to Marlan Drive in Oak Ridge Subdivision Mayor Gottfried is requested to contact those residents involved to be advised of this request. A decision on this matter will be made at the December 13th meeting. The monthly analysis on crime for October, 1978, from Muskego Police Department was received and placed on file. The committee acknowledged receipt of communications from Mr. Lee and Mr. Nowak regarding asphalt requirements for the Howard Imme property dated 10/20/78 and 10/23/78. Tess Corners Rescue Reports from 10/3/78 to 10/19/78 were received and placed on file. Ald. Pienkos requested the Police Department to send a press release to local newspapers informing residents of the increase in thefts during the coming holidayseason and what they can do to prevent theft., Ald. Also present were Aldermen Pienkos, Wallner and Dumke, Lt. Earl Zabel, Mrs. John Ebli, Mrs. Gerry Nelson and Mrs. Sophie Hoppe. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and placed on file. Regarding the driveway of the Muskego Beer and Liquor Store, the committee requested the Police Department to forward a copy of the accident history of that area (S.T.H. 24 and Center Drive) to the Board of Appeals and the Safety Committee. Ald. Tomczyk will contact Mr. Walter Spann of the Board of Appeals to determine when a decision needs to be made. Mrs. Ebli, Schubring Drive, appeared before the committee to inform the committee there has been a great improvement in the Lakeview Gardens Tavern area. Mrs Ebli thanked all those responsible for that improvement and hoped it continues. Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Hoppe appeared before the committee to find out the status of the animal shelter being heated. Ald. Van Lanen requests that the Police Department monitor more closely the autos driving on S.T.H. 24 from Racine Ave. to the Fountainwood area regarding excessive speed. Ald. Van Lanen brought before the committee a concern of gravel and dump trucks speeding in the Guernsey Meadows Subdivision. He requested additional surveillance in that area. The committee will review the police survey of public/private parking lots on S.T.H. 24. Ald. Pienkos moved to adjourn. Seconded by Ald. Tomczyk. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 9 08 P.M.
